Overview

For more than four hundred years, the males of the Ostermann family have unleashed their secret power on the world, destroying lives and amassing great fortunes. But five centuries prior, the first woman to inherit the identical gene as the males foretold that another female would be born with the same power. It was she who would stand against the madness of the Ostermann reign. No one knew when she would come...until now.

In present-day British Columbia, Wolf Ostermann rules his exotic estate with an iron fist. Ostermann has no son to continue his family legacy, so if he and his family are to maintain their economic grip on the world, Wolf must indoctrinate his reluctant daughter, Tara. Unfortunately for Wolf, Tara will have nothing to do with him anymore, and that doesn't bode well for the tyrannical megalomaniac.

Now on the run, Tara and ex-CIA operative Chris Landry must battle for their lives as they ultimately realize the tenacious reach of her father's powerful mind-and the evil it unleashes on all of humanity.

Bursting with raw emotion, Mind Walker combines action and suspense in a nonstop ride from the landscapes of British Columbia to the Caribbean Islands, and ends in a chilling climax in New York City.

    Whatta ride!!!

Roy combines action, suspense, love, sex, and even a bit of sci-fi into a captivating, fast paced thrill ride that held my attention right to the very end.

    I've enjoyed it immensely

WOW!! I was unable to put Mind Walker down. I read it in one sitting.

Mind Walker appealed to all my senses, immediately bringing me into the story. Roy's intense writing style continued to keep my interest right up to the end. As if that wasn't enough, his unique way of blending genres into a x-genre thriller -- suspense, action, romance and even a bit of sci-fi -- just added to the depth and entertainment value of the story.

    I Also Recommend:

Intriguing thriller with some adult content.

What would you do if one day you discovered that for most of your life, you had been manipulated by an ambitious and unscrupulous person? That is the dilemma for Chris Landry, one of the three main characters in Roy McConnell's thriller, Mind Walker. With this book, the author explores mind control and its devastating consequences on those who are unaware of the power that a Mind Walker have over their lives and the world.

The books begins with a heated argument between the other two main characters, Tara Ostermann and her authoritarian father, Wolf --- the experienced mind walker. They argue about Tara's stubborn refusal to carry on 400 years of family legacy controlling others for their benefits. Fearing for her life, Tara is secretly planning to run away. But that night, after waking up terrified and sweating from a vivid dream, she is kidnapped from her room.

The next morning Tara's mother, Una, discovers that her daughter is missing, and pleads with her husband to call the police. Wolf refuses to get the police involved to avoid bringing attention to himself and his family. Wolf calls Chris Landry, Tara's personal bodyguard, and puts him in charge of the investigation. During a confidential conversation with George, the family driver and Wolf secretly assigned Tara's bodyguard, he is assassinated and the assassin also tries to kill Chris. While running and looking for refuge, Chris steals one of Wolf's cars and escapes at high speed crashing through the entrance gates. He must rely on his CIA knowledge, training, and former contacts to find and rescue Tara, while trying to stay alive and out of the reach of Wolf Ostermann.

Meanwhile Tara has regained consciousness and is trying to understand what happened to her. During her captivity Tara has the same vivid dream with that familiar female voice. But this time "the voice" identifies herself and explains to Tara her abilities and teach her how to use them.

From the moment that Chris escapes the Ostermann's fortress the pace of the story intensifies and, the reader will find himself or herself running with him in a non-stop thriller from British Columbia to the Caribbean Islands. All involved in this rescue mission must endure the constant attacks of Mr. Ostermann's pack of wolves closing on their prey, Chris.

I found the storyline to be original, thought-provoking, and very attuned with the day we are living where greed rules and compassion is considered a sign of weakness.

Since I review mostly Christian books, I was warned by the author about its adult content. Despite his warning, I decided to read and review the book since its description sounded extremely interesting to me. I was not disappointed! I was captured from page one. The storyline was an exhilarating and intriguing thriller with elements of science fiction and some adult content.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a good thriller with a fresh idea and don't mind some graphic scenes.

    A Page-Turning, Dramatic Thriller

The males of the Ostermann family possess quite the unique gift: not only can they read the minds of others, they can also "walk through" them and alter their thoughts. For years, the members of the Ostermann clan have used their special powers to destroy lives and build a financial empire for themselves, but when patriarch Wolf Ostermann finds himself without a son to carry on the avaricious family legacy, he attempts to train his daughter, Tara, in order to preserve their crushing grip on the world. Little does he know, though, Tara has no interest in entering the "family business," and she soon flees for her life, but can she truly hope to escape the tyrannical clutches of her father - who has every means available to him to stop her in her tracks...?

Combining nonstop action with a taut, intriguing storyline, Mind Walker is a dynamic suspense thriller. From the very beginning, author Roy McConnell's compelling page turner draws the reader in and takes him/her on a riveting journey of international adventure and high-stakes drama, culminating in a precipitous climax sure to leave many a jaw dropped in stunned surprise. Further bolstering McConnell's gripping tale is the stark realism to which he lends it: though the Ostermanns' powers are clearly fictitious in nature, McConnell chronicles them - and their damning effects - in such convincing fashion that it gives you considerable pause when reflecting on just who is really controlling your every thought and deed.

With engrossing action and solid character development, Mind Walker is an entertaining action/adventure thriller. A solid debut from a promising new literary talent.

    A Twisted Plot!

This is one of those books that is mainly plot-driven, with the characters going along for the ride. That plot definitely carries the story and kept me turning pages.

The Ostermann family has a genetic gift that is being passed down through the generations. They not only read minds, they can walk through them and alter thoughts. Wolf Ostermann is using that gift for destruction and financial gain. His daughter Tara rebels and soon they are in a battle like no other.

The concept of mind walking is both intriguing and terrifying. This book might just leave you wondering where your next thought is really coming from!

What If You Could Control What Others Thought?

Wolf Ostermann is a powerful and wealthy man; he is also a man with an extraordinary gift. Unfortunately for the world, Wolf is driven by more power and greed. He knows nothing of mercy as he plans his moves for domination of those around him and those he can use. His plans include his daughter, Tara, but she has other plans and has no intention of giving in to his wishes. What she doesn't know is that she is the only one that can stop the evil of her father.

To protect his investment Wolf hires Chris Landry, an ex-CIA operative, to guard Tara at all times. Soon a love blossoms between the two and they decide to escape together. However, Chris has no idea how deep Wolf's deceptions run and soon he is second guessing his own life decisions.

A development with Tara only adds to Chris's urgency to keep her away from Wolf. Wolf, on the other hand, has a different solution in mind. The chess game they play is fast and furious because they both no more then life is on the line; unbelievable power, money and a continuous domination by the Ostermann family is as well.

Chris must keep on his toes as assassins, spies, civilians manipulated by Wolf and even the United States military continue the relentless pursuit of him and Tara.

Can Chris protect Tara? Can they live a life without the interference of her father? Can they unravel the secret of his gift? What will it take to defeat Wolf?

From the first word, Roy McConnell's passion for crafting a gripping tale takes center stage. Instantly, you are immersed in the action and thrills surrounding the characters. With each passing page, it is virtually impossible not to care for Chris and Tara in "Mind Walker."

"Mind Walker" delivers nonstop action and thrills with an intriguing pinch of Science Fiction. The unique story, strong character development and plot carry it from page to page. This book is a must have for those seeking action, adventure and a thrill ride of a novel.

Author Roy McConnell's debut novel, is sure to impress even the most avid action/thriller fan. I see a bright future for this up and coming author.

A spellbinding page turner from beginning to end

I finished this book in 12 hours-- I recommend Mind Walker to all who enjoy a good thriller/mystery--this one has an additional twist that I have not found in any other novel. I love to read anything by Patterson and Sandford but I have now added McConnell to my must read list of authors. I am looking forward to the next one in 2011.

    Very easy and readable book

I found that Mind Walker was a very easy and readable book. I am not a fast reader, but I read this book in a few days. Mostly at night before bed. The plot was well thought out and had some believable twists too it but also had some fantasy too it too. At the end of the book I felt I wanted more and that the book ended a little too quickly.

A good first novel, and look forward to reading more from this author.
