Children's Literature - JoAn Watson Martin
Eight-year-old Chris had a medical problem which forced doctors to remove one of his arms. After meeting Saydee, a therapy dog, he willingly used his prosthesis to throw the ball for Saydee. Schnauzers were first raised in Germany to guard the livestock and kill rats that ate the farmer's grain. Schnauzers do not adjust well to change, so as many people, places and things as possible should be introduced early in the puppy's life. They love to hunt and can run long distances without tiring. Some Schnauzers have learned to follow set steps to music and dance. They have a life span of fourteen years, but are subject to cataracts. Small in appearance, Miniature Schnauzers are supersized in heart and spirit. Fetty has included research on Miniature Schnauzers, qualifications for Best in Show, a glossary, index, bibliography, and online websites. Sidebars add to the factual knowledge of the little dog's history, its appearance, and its personality. Dunleavy located numerous, colorful action shots. This is an excellent book to help children decide which dog to get. The series, "Little Dogs Rock II," spotlights six different breeds. Reviewer: JoAn Watson Martin
