Overview

Many things about the old Minnesota were comforting and good—from the network of family farms across the land, to neighborhood movie theaters, to mom-and-pop resorts in the north woods. And while it saddens any life-long Minnesotan to see those things become more scarce, it’s also intriguing and exciting to see the new ideas and customs that changing times bring to our state.            Minnesota Yesterday & Today brings back nostalgic recollections of the state as it once was. Historic photographs are shown side by side with the modern photography of Layne Kennedy, the connections through time enlightened by the historical text of Greg Breining.Together, these images of then and now will make you marvel at how far we’ve come—and at how many things remain the same.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Nothing reflects the intensity of change better than the stark disparity of "then and now" photographs. Minnesota Yesterday & Today offers a feast of contrasts, setting contemporary shots adjacent to images from vintage postcards, archival photographs, brochures, and other ephemera. After perusing this book, you will never again be able to walk down a major Twin Cities street without also sauntering back into history.
