Published in association with the Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations at the U. of Warwick, this compilation of 16 papers by European contributors (with the exception of a university-in-exile professor at the New York School for Social Research) examines the local-level lot of immigrants in Europe's cities in a global, post- industrial context. Social scientists discuss patterns in case studies of economic, social, and political participation/exclusion; and issues of law and order, security and justice. The final paper presents mediation as an approach to social integration. Body-Gendrot teaches political science at the Sorbonne in Paris.
