Overview

In this inspiring exploration of the mind's power, pioneering physicist Russell Targ and spiritual healer Jane Katra examine how our mind's ability to transcend the limits of space and time is linked to our capacity for healing. The authors fascinating collaboration began when Dr. Katra helped Targ - a leading scientist in the investigation of psychic abilities - cure himself of what was diagnosed as metastatic cancer. From this beginning, the authors weave together compelling scientific evidence, ancient spiritual teachings, and dramatic personal stories - from witnessing mysterious folk healers in the Philippines to performing psychic experiments between Moscow and San Francisco - while exploring the potential of our "nonlocal" mind. Incorporating Eastern philosophy and modern science, Targ and Katra explain how popular methods of alternative healing, from Therapeutic Touch to Chi Gong, make use of nonlocal mind. The authors combine the perspectives of physicist and mystic to reveal the fascinating possibilities for mind-to-mind connections in a "community of spirit." Their conclusions are startling, exciting, and offer hope for the future - for scientists, healers, and general readers alike.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
What Jung identified as the collective unconscious, Emerson labeled "the Oversoul" and physicist David Bohm named "quantum interconnectedness" is here called the "non-local mind, or community of spirit" by Lockheed staff scientist Targ (The Mind Race) and spiritual healer Katra. From Targ's experiments for the CIA in "ESPionage" to his curing of his own metastasized cancer, the authors explore a variety of evidence for a level of consciousness that includes "remote viewing" and spiritual healing. Their individual views and experiences complement one another as Targ relates numerous scientific experiments seemingly proving the existence of psi, or psychic abilities, and Katra tells her personal story of being "called" to spiritual healingagainst her will and intellectual beliefsin a dream. ESP, clairvoyance, mental telepathy, precognition, intuition, hypnosis, prayer, therapeutic touch and the differences between "psychic," "energy" and "spiritual" healings are all explored here in the light of "mind-to-mind," "mind-to-body" and "mind-to-matter" connections. Seeking to legitimize and expand the study of psi, the authors envision a future "Psychic Internet," to which "we are all already hooked up. We just have to decide to pay attention." This provocative book should help readers do just that. (Feb.)

    A Superb Book

I found this book to be remarkable, especially the declassified evidence on the CIA's remote viewing successes. To anyone who has a question about or an interest in the powers of intuition and psychic powers, this is a cogent, well presented, and very inspiring book by two wonderful authors who tell a remarkable story, one that makes the hard to believe quite believable. I recommend this book and I am giving copies to friends.
