This book drew me in from the beginning. Miranda works for The Company, an international security firm. There is nothing weak about this girl. Garen is in charge at The Company. Hello, hot alpha male :) Their chemistry is sizzling, along with the pages in this book. If you enjoy action packed, shifter romance stories, I highly recommend this!!! Great start to what I feel is going to be a phenomenal seriesWas this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Miranda's Mate (The Company Store #1) by Ann Gimpel
4 ½ of 5 Stars
Former Green Beret, Miranda Miller, is a junior agent for The Company, an international security firm. She has a couple of secrets: she is a lycan and she likes her boss, Garen LeRochefort. While on a mission to stop the head of a human trafficking organization, her cover is blown. She is now under Garen’s protection and he has some secrets of his own.
Miranda is a great heroine. She is courageous and smart. She is very self-reliant. I felt bad that her mother died when she was young, and she did not have a fellow lycan to learn from.
I also like Garen. He is a noble leader. He struggles with following his own rules and is willing to grow regardless of his position of power and age.
I really enjoyed the plot. The story was filled with action from beginning to end. It was an interesting story with a lot going on to keep you attentive. Miranda's Mate would make a great movie or as the series progresses TV series. This is a terrific series that I am looking forward to continuing reading.

I really like these types of stories, stories where both parties want the same thing, but neither has the guts to reach for it. And I felt like this one was done beautifully. There tends to be a thin line between getting that type of storyline right, and royally pissing me off. Ann Gimpel got it right.
Now, I don't usually read spy novels. I'm not sure I've ever read a spy novel in my life. Admittedly, this is also romance, but there's also spying and assassinations and intrigue and shifters.
The story is fast paced, gripping, and I wish I hadn't read a PDF copy because I ended up not making anywhere near as many notes as I do when reading ePub or Kindle formats. The characters are very human, very natural. They felt real.

Ann Gimpel has created an entertaining paranormal read that is a series starter that promises even more intrigue in the future courtesy of a secretive agency capable of doing whatever it takes to get the job done. This story lays the groundwork by introducing us to the head of the agency, who has secrets of his own, and the woman who leads his heart on a merry chase while dealing with life or death issues.
Miranda wants nothing more than to become a permanent member of the Company, well.....she'd also like to claim her boss Garen but doesn't want to jeopardize her job. After going too far during a mission to stop human trafficking she's now the target of assassins and must go into hiding under the protection of her sexy boss. The sexual tension that's been brewing between them morphs into something more as secrets are revealed and their mutual attraction becomes combustible through some hot and heavy encounters. Miranda is a tough woman who knows how important it is to keep the truth about herself secret as shifters are being hunted by humans, and after her recent bloodletting, she's even more in jeopardy. She's no wilting flower though and more than capable of sticking up for herself.
Garen is a strong and mysterious man who's surrounded himself with only the best men and women shifters. He's always been a professional but finds it difficult to remain that way around Miranda as the sexual tension surrounding them becomes unrelenting. His wolf side becomes harder to control as feelings of jealousy and the need to claim have him throwing rules out the window to keep her safe and maker her his.
There's an interesting mythology surrounding these shifters just hinted at that I long to learn more about. There's very few characters beyond the main protagonists who left an impression on me except for the charming and playful Lars. His friendly banter with Garen was jovial and showed the depth of their friendship. His flirting with Miranda was sexy yet strictly a means to bring Garen and her together. I'm enamored with him and hope to see his story told soon. There was a nice balance between action and romance but nothing was ever dug into too deeply as is the case with a novella. The overall story started here has me intrigued and wanting more, so here's to the future of this unique and entertaining series!

This is the first book in The Company Store series by Ann Gimpel. It is also the first book that I have read by this author, but I guarantee it won't be the last. I liked the way the author slowly brought us into the secret shifter world. We were given information as we needed it, not just given an info dump. It made the story more about who the characters are and not what the characters are. And who are they? They are secret agent types that work for an international security company that sends them on missions all over the world. They are also a man and woman who have to learn to trust one another and themselves.
We meet Miranda as she is returning to the states after a mission to take out the head of an international human trafficking organization in Amsterdam. Miranda takes a few minutes to fantasize about Garen, her boss and founder/chairman of The Company. She knows that they are fruitless dreams, because Garen has a reputation of barely acknowledging employees until they reached full operative status. Miranda is still just a junior grade agent and has a ways to go. After she factors in being a lycan, her dreams burst as they always do.
When Miranda and her pilot Lars land at JFK, they find out that human trafficking organization known as the International Success Ltd has already beaten them there and killed her new pilot. It seems they have already figured out who she really was and how to track her down. Miranda and Lars are forced to lie low in a safe house until alternate transport is arranged.
Meanwhile Garen, is having a mild freak out. Miranda was the best choice for taking out Derek Roulan, the head of ISL, due to her being the most exotic and seductive female agent. But against his own company policies and personal agenda, Garen was interested in Miranda. In The Company, only those with supernatural abilities make it to full operative status and learn about each other. Garen had tried many ways and times to figure out if Miranda was one of them, but each time she managed to block him. He knows that until he knows for sure, he can't even think of showing an interest in her. But he also can't get her out of his mind and worrying about her is tying him up in knots. When he finds out that Miranda and Lars are together, his jealousy is almost more than he can bear.
I liked that this story was a good mix of action, romance and intrigue all mixed with the paranormal world. Miranda is a strong, kick ass female, an ex-Green Beret. She fights for what she believes in and is side by side with the guys kicking bad guy butt. Garen is an Alpha in every sense of the word, but he doesn't treat Miranda like a moron or a child. He respects her abilities, and although he wants to hide her away and protect her, he knows that she can do a good job of protecting herself. I am going with 3 stars on Goodreads and keeping a look out for book 2 in the series.

Miranda’s Mate is a story of claiming, possession, and destiny. Miranda is a wolf shifter that is lusting after her boss…big time. Garen has a few secrets of his own and he wants Miranda more than anything, but she works for him and that makes her off limits. When a mission goes wrong Garen will risk everything to save Miranda, including exposing himself.
The chemistry between Miranda and Garen is so intense. Right from the start you can feel the attraction, the primal need, and the sensual seduction that is weaving them together. How much will they risk to be together?
Miranda’s Mate is full of suspense, romance, a fierce Alpha male, a stubborn woman, and a love that will last for all time. Be warned….you will not want to put this story down. The spell Miranda and Garen weave will seduce you, possess you, and capture your heart!

***Book provided by author for an honest review***
Miranda Miller is an ex Green Beret and agent for The Company, an international security agency. We meet Miranda on her way back from a mission that went a little awry, leaving her fighting for her life against an organization involved in human trafficking. In the mist of hiding from the people who want her dead, Miranda is forced to deal with her ever increasing feelings for her boss. Office affairs are against company policy. They're even more complicated when you're trying to hide the fact that you're a lycan.
Miranda is a strong heroine. She wants to stand on her own and prove she's a worthy agent on her own merit, making a relationship with the boss even more taboo. She waivers back and forth at times from her feeling for Garen, her boss, and thinking about replacing him with others. No matter how hard she tries, she can't seem to get Garen out her system. I enjoyed her interactions with Garen. I appreciated Miranda's reluctance to give up her life for a relationship she wasn't sure would have longevity. I would've hated it if she just fell into Garth's arms and quit her job.
Garen LeRochefort is playing dual roles, both he has to keep secret. He heads The Company and is Miranda's boss. The Company is an organization of security personnel made up of shifters. Garen vets all the agents until he's sure they are shifters. Only then, do they make it to the top ranks of The Company. Miranda has become a complication in Garen's life. He can't continue to deny his feeling for her any longer, but he can't compromise his own company policies and he's not sure if she's a shifter. I like that Garen has a softer edge which humanizes the serious persona he has to display for his job. His relationship with his friend Lars is entertaining and heartfelt.
The relationship between Miranda and Garen is rocky to say the least. They struggle to maintain a professional affiliation, even after they had sex on the plane back to the West Coast. Each of their secrets upholds a barrier between the two, but slowly the force of their attraction breaks down the obstacles keeping them apart. The couple has a heated chemistry that propels you to want to know what happens next. The plot is engaging and fast paced. There were only a couple of things I didn't enjoy about the story. Much of the initial action that the plot is based on, Miranda killing the head of the trafficking organization, is only found out through dialogue between Miranda and others. I wish I could have experience the scene first hand. It seemed a pivotal point of the action. There were a couple of places in the story where I thought the dialogue was a little forced just to give us some background information.
Overall it is an enjoyable story with characters you can relate to.
