Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
In contrast to the comprehensive psychological, medical, and social services approach presented to parents by Ingrid Kahn and Perry-Lynn Maffit's A Silent Sorrow: Pregnancy Loss ( LJ 1/93), this handbook by two bereaved mothers focuses on helping mothers to acknowledge and grieve the death of their unborn child. The authors share their intimate feelings and those of the 100 diverse women whom they interviewed about maternal love, loneliness, confusion, responses of their partners and doctors, and obstacles to grieving. Painfully moving anecdotes in the respondents' own words, combined with informed commentary, make this text a detailed and insightful guide to understanding just what a bereaved mother feels. Recommended.-- Kathryn Hammell Carpenter, Univ. of Illinois, Chicago

This book really helped me to let my grief and sadness take its course. It let me know that I am not alone and that what was going on with my body both physically & mentally were normal and ok. Reminds you that you are not alone. A book for women and the people who love them. We are now ttc again.

    Comforting

I found a lot of comfort in this book as it validates the feelings and reactions I am having. I found myself physically nodding as I read the book, agreeing with what I was reading. And the stories of other women who have lost a child through miscarriage, and especially the authors, really touched me. At times it even helped me cry when I had tears that needed to flow. I would highly recommend this book to any woman who has lost a child through miscarriage.

    Stories FOR the heart

This book speaks the language of women who have lost a baby. I was given my copy by a friend after my second miscarriage in a row, and after her fifth. I ended up passing it to a friend who delivered a stillborn daughter. The validation it provides is life-saving and the anecdotes spoke for me to others who didn't understand what I was going through. A good book to have friends or family read so they understand the emotional pain of miscarriage.

This book has been a lifesaver during my time of Loss

This book spoke to me through the women's stories and validation of everything I am experiencing after losing my child. It let me know that the loss I felt and the changes in the way I view and deal with life are okay. I highly recommend it to any mother who loss a child due to miscarriage. I am so grateful to the author's who experienced miscarriages themselves for their help in my grieving process.
