Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.

Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost's daughter, Santa Claus's niece, heir to the Winter Throne and now...private investigator. Sort of.
Needing someone he can trust, her father sends her undercover to Nocturne Falls to find out why employees at the Santa's Workshop toy store are going missing.
Doing that requires getting to know the town, which leads to interesting encounters with a sexy vampire, an old flame, and an elevator that's strictly off-limits. The more Jayne finds out, the more questions she has, but the answers lead her deeper into danger.
Will her magic save her? Or will she come up cold?

The story is cute, exciting, original, imaginative and a totally unique twist on paranormal romance filled to the brim with mystery, suspense and lighthearted humor. The narrative is exceptionally well crafted and beautiful written in the first person from the perspective of the the heroine, Jayne Frost, the Winter Princess and daughter of the Winter King, Jack Frost. The dialogue is smart, witty and flows effortlessly. Painter is a gifted storyteller and extremely skilled at building wonderful worlds for her readers but my favorite component of her stories is the magnificent cast of captivating and engaging characters she creates who come to life for us in the pages of her books. They will capture your imagination and steal your heart. What did I love about this book? Everything! What didn't I like about this book? Duh...not a darn thing! Would I recommend this book? You bet and I am, for all ages and anyone who loves a sweet little cozy mystery with just a smidge of light romance! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! For all you folks who haven't heard of Nocturne Falls, it's a fictional town in Georgia which celebrates Halloween 365 days a year and they celebrate it big time since it's the town's main source of income. Yup, tourists flock to Nocturne Falls where the streets are populated every single day with all manner of supernatural creatures dressed as gargoyles, vampires, witches, elves, werewolves, valkyries and anything else your mind can imagine. Except they aren't just dressed as these creatures.....they actually are these creatures and they're hiding in plain sight of the entire world. Oh my! And they not only live in Nocturne Falls but make their living by owning businesses which cater to the human tourists. But how could you not love it with haunts (sorry, I just couldn't resist that little pun) like The Scream Shop, Hallowed Bean, Howlers Bar & Grill, The Poison Apple, Illusions, Insomnia, Ever After, Mummy's Diner, The Gingerbread Inn, Delaney's Delectables, The Black Rose D & B (*snicker* a Dead and Breakfast rather than a Bed and Breakfast *giggle*) and Santa's Workshop. Santa's Workshop??? How did that one get into the Halloween themed Nocturne Falls? Well, every town needs a toy store, right? And this store is only one of many located around the world owned by none other than the fat man in the red suit. That's right, Kris Kringle from the North Pole and is overseen by Santa's right hand man, the Winter King himself, Jack Frost who just happens to also be his brother-in-law. Yup, family business and all that. My full review is available at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1575481384

Full review and more available at: http://oneguysguidetogoodreads.blogspot.com/2016/03/miss-frost-solves-cold-case-jayne-frost.html ***** My Thoughts: Anyone who follows this blog knows that last year I was introduced to Kristen Painter and her Nocturne Falls series for the first time. I fell in love with every word and haven't looked back since. Wow. Just wow. I can't get enough. I've read and reread these novels so many times that I can't help but shout about them from the rooftops. You guys can't even begin to understand the excitement I felt upon learning that Painter was releasing a spin-off series in the same literary world! An awesome paranormal mystery series that was sure to impress, but would it have the same impact as Nocturne Falls? Absolutely! I have to say that I really didn't know what to expect when I started this one. While it lives within the world Painter has crafted through five previous novels, it definitely blazes a trail all its' own. From the very first chapter we're introduced to an entirely different type of paranormal creature: elves. Not just any elves: Winter Elves. North Pole-Santa-Winter Wonderland kind of elves. With all the paranormal awesome that Painter has unleashed previously I shouldn't have been surprised by this bold move by Painter, but it definitely surprised me in the best possibly way. I love Christmas so having the chance to intermingle that Christmas theme with Nocturne Fall's Halloween spirit was an amazing combination! I have to say, I think the characters in this novel were some of my favorite from Painter yet, particularly Jayne. Jayne Frost, daughter of Jack Frost and niece to Kris Kringle himself, is about as awesome as heroines come. She's intelligent, independent, and pretty doggone fearless. It was really awesome to read such a well rounded character's development through the story. One of my favorite parts about Painter and her writing style is that she can craft an incredible story full of amazing characters without bogging the stories down with details. It's very evident to me, as a reader and fan, that Painter is in love with her stories as it shows. They're non-stop fun from start to finish. But back to the characters, Painter doesn't mess around with convention or the confines the genre may present. She gives us the characters she wants to write and for that I have mad respect. The supporting cast of this first novel was awesome and while I was on the fence about some character, I really grew to appreciate each of them by the novel's gripping finale. Painter continues to knock it out of the park with her settings within Nocturne Falls. I never know what she'll come up with next. I actually am kind of hoping for some sort of Nocturne Falls map one day, I know it'd sure be a place on my bucket list to visit. We see many familiar faces in this novel and travel to places we've seen before. Except this time we get to see them with an entirely new set of eyes and in a mystery aspect. When everyone is a suspect, Nocturne Falls turns into quite a different place! Above all, this read was just great fun. It was a fast read that I devoured in one sitting. I cannot wait to see what direction Painter takes with the remainder of this series. I know that this reader will absolutely be devouring each passing installment. This being said, it should come as no surprise to anyone that I am granting Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case a glowing 5-star review. An excellent start to what I know

Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case: A Nocturne Falls Mystery (Jayne Frost Book 1) by Kristen Painter Jayne Frost is not only Jack Frost' daughter but Santa's niece. Seems winter elves from the North Pole have been disappearing at the Toy Shop in Nocturne Falls. Jayne goes undercover to find ot what has happened to them. Upon arriving Jay meets Bridgett (a werewolf) Grayson (a vampire) oh and her ex boyfriend Cooper. As usual from Kristen Painter's Nocturne Falls series you have humor along with a great story. Look forward to more about Jayne and her stories in Nocturne Falls.

I love Kristen Painter and all of her books. I love Nocturne Falls!!! In this book you meet some new characters set in the familiar town of Nocturne Falls. Jayne must go undercover as Lilibeth to discover why employees have just up and left. She encounters and old boyfriend and meets a vampire. Along the way she also makes some great friends. I really enjoyed this book and found the mystery not very easy to solve! Which I love. I can not wait to read the next one!

This is a fun book; this is the first book in the Jayne Frost Series by Kristen Painter. The series is a cross over book from the author’s popular Nocturne Falls series. Nocturne Falls, is a town that celebrates Halloween 365 days of the year. Jayne Frost is a winter elf, her dad happens to be Jack Frost and she is also Santa Claus’s niece. Her father and uncle need someone they can trust, so they send Jayne to Nocturne Falls to investigate why the elves that work at the Santa’s Workshop toy store keep disappearing. Jayne jumps at the chance to change her appearance so no one knows who she really is. If you are looking for a cute, fun mystery then you need to read this book. I can’t wait until the next book is out. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Jayne Frost has a family problem. Her uncle is Kris Kringle—yes, Santa Clause—and her father is Jack Frost, also known as the Winter King, making her a princess. As such, she has problems fitting in at the North Pole. Losing six employees from one of their Christmas stores in the past two and a half years, Kris and Jack decide to send Jayne undercover to Nocturne Falls to investigate. Using an alias and armed with a Skype-type snowglobe, Jayne begins her new duties by rescuing a cat named Spider and befriending a vampire. Run-ins with an old boyfriend; befriending two other store employees; snooping—excuse me—investigating the disappearances while trying to blend in with other Nocturne Falls inhabitants makes for an eventful week for Jayne. While this is the first book in a new series about Nocturne Falls, some of the other denizens from the first series also make cameos on stage, as it were. I enjoyed the book immensely and am hoping for more about Ms Jayne Frost and Nocturne Falls, especially considering there might be a romance triangle forming (did I mention a vampire and an ex-boyfriend). Of course, I am also hoping Ms Painter will continue with her original series about the town where supernaturals can be themselves.

I received an ARC of this book from the author for an honest review. Set in our favorite town of Nocturne Falls, Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case is more mystery than romance, although we do get some juicy PDAs in this book. Jayne Frost, daughter of Winter King Jack Frost and Santa’s sister Klara Kringle, is well a North Pole Misfit. Princess Jayne finds herself generally in one of two categories. Avoided for being Royalty, or given special treatment for being Royalty. All she wants is to be a normal Winter Elf, with friends. When workers start to go missing after leaving the Santa’s Workshop store in the Nocturne Fall’s, Jayne is asked to investigate the disappearances. Kristen does a wonderful job of keeping you guessing just who is to blame for the disappearances, and when you finally figure out the who done it, you can appreciate how well Kristen kept you guessing. Because of all the digging Jayne does we find out more about the world of Nocturne Falls in a fun way. I hope to see more of Jayne’s story in a regular Nocturne Falls book, and would love to see her solve more cases. Violence: Mild (Some fighting, nothing very graphic) Romance: Mild. PDAs, Kissing and Potential Love Triangle situation. 5 Star Rating

Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case is the beginning of a new Mystery Series from Kristen Painter, set in the same world as her wonderful Nocturne Falls books. As an opener, it is sublime. I loved the main character, Jayne, I was completely able to relate to her. She's funny, quirky, and very quick on her feet. The story moves as well, and the mystery kept you guessing until the end. I sincerely hope there are more in this Series; just one taste was not enough!
