Overview

Pardon our French, but in Miss Julia's newest nonstop adventure, "steel magnolias kick butt" (Kirkus Reviews).

Miss Julia has promised her adoring husband, Sam, to mind her own business. What a relief! Instead of trying to figure out why that dead body was found in Miss Petty's toolshed, Miss Julia can concentrate on taking care of just-in-time newlywed Hazel Marie as she prepares for her impending due date. But then Miss Julia-who has always balanced her checkbook down to the penny-suddenly finds her checks bouncing all over town. Just this once (as she tells herself ), Miss Julia starts investigating and so begin the antics that have made her one of the most beloved and irrepressible ladies-of-a-certain-age in today's fiction.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
At the start of Ross's slow-moving 12th Miss Julia mystery set in Abbotsville, N.C. (after 2010's Miss Julia Renews Her Vows), Miss Julia's stepson, Lloyd, a student in Miss Petty's social studies class, breathlessly tells Julia, "They found a body in Miss Petty's outhouse" (actually, the teacher's toolshed). Embezzler and ex-con Richard Stroud appears to have died of natural causes while spying on his former business partner, Thurlow Jones. Miss Julia never recovered the money Richard once stole from her, and Richard had again been forging checks on her account. In one exciting development in an otherwise placid plot, Hazel Marie Pickens gives birth to twins during a blizzard attended by, among others, Miss Julia, home health care professional Etta Mae Wiggins, and Lloyd, whose dad was Miss Julia's late two-timing husband, Wesley Lloyd Springer. The sweet down-home humor only partly redeems a thin and far-fetched mystery. 5-city author tour. (Apr.)
Library Journal
Miss Julia is too busy helping pregnant Hazel Marie get ready for her due date to worry much about the dead body discovered in a neighbor's tool shed—and, anyway, she promised not to get involved. Then again, why is someone obviously innocent being blamed for the crime? Ross has a solid fan base, and her efforts don't seem to be flagging; with a five-city tour.

Love All These Miss Julia Books

Just when I think that Miss Julia can't find any more trouble or get into someone else's business, she does. I think each book gets better! Miss Julia and her sidekick Lillian are always into some adventure in the middle of the night. I laughed out loud several times and had to read excerpts to my husband. Ann B. Ross is a master of descriptive words. You feel like you know the characters and you are right there. You will love this book! Keep the Miss Julia books coming Ann!

    I Also Recommend:

    LOVED IT!!!!!

ust a little history of this series:
When Hazel Marie Puckett and her nine-year-old son, Little Lloyd, show up on Julia Springer's doorstep in Abbotsford, North Carolina, Miss Julia receives the shock of her long and proper life. After 44 years of marriage to pillar-of-church-and-community Wesley Lloyd Springer, she discovers that while she had assumed he was working late at the family bank, he was engaged in other, more carnal, pursuits. For, as Hazel Marie shyly explains, Little Lloyd is Miss Julia's late husband's son.

In this book (#12) Hazel Marie twins are due at any time, a big snowstorm is headed for Abbottsville, Julia and her husband Sam have a tiff about Miss Julia keeping secrets from him and Miss Julia is hauled to the police station after she starts bouncing checks all over town. If that isn't enough a dead body is found in a shed on the property of one of Lloyd's teachers. Miss Julia has her hands full in this one!

I have loved this series from the very first book. Ann B. Ross' writes this series in such away that you become part of the family. It really tackled a dicey issue from the start, how many widows would take in their husband's mistress and their son and handle it with such grace? It takes the terms "extended family" to a whole new level and the reader is included every step of the way.

Each book has a new hurdle and each one is a true joy to read. The mystery part, while the driving force to each new story, is just one part of the puzzle, the development and interaction of the characters are really what makes these stories entertaining. Miss Julia's dry wit can only come from the author herself. All the other characters are true to life, people from any neighborhood with a little bit of southern flair, including the eccentric Mr. Thurlow Jones.

This series needs to be read in order so if you haven't been drawn into this wonderful series before start with Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind. If you are already a fan you will love this book, including the birth of Hazel Marie's twins. You can pre-order yours today.

    Miss Julia Creates Havoc Again!

Unique and unorthodox but a proper Southern lady, Miss Julia worries constantly and sometimes acts to reduce her anxiety in ways that create more problems. However, she manages to leave readers chuckling at her antics.
In this, volume twelve about Miss Julia, her late husband's mistress, Hazel Marie (now married) is carrying twins. Will the babies be safely delivered at the hospital? Of course not. At a crucial moment the hired mid-wife admits she's never been present at a birth. Nor has Miss Julia.
A body is found in Miss Julia's late husband's son's teacher's back shed. Plus someone has written large checks on and drained Miss Julia's bank account. Both her lawyers are too busy to help her resolve this immediately. The bank first assumes she's senile and needs someone to handle her finances, then has her arrested for fraud.
Miss Julia tries to avoid town gossip while still learning all she can. She cons her cook, Lillian, into a midnight venture with her to gain information about the dead man.
She also has a disagreement with her new husband, Sam, and he moves out of her house. Miss Julia worries about the dead man's ex-wife whose car she finds parked at Sam's during lunch time. Sam's cook also encourages the separation of Julia and Sam.
How Julia resolves her problems without getting caught at some possible illegal maneuvers and her relationship difficulties surprises and delights readers.

    Well worth reading miss julia

Miss julia has some laugh out loud moments that are classic, its worth the book to just read about hazel and the twins ! however the story line revolving around sam wraps up a little too suddenly' it left me wondering what i missed!

    Enjoyable

Miss Julie, as always, is entertaining and I wonder how she gets herself into the situations she finds herself in. While not quite up to par with the previous books, it was fun to see how she handled twins coming into her life and Sam's need for alone time. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Ann B. Ross is fantastic! This book is just as terrific as all of the others. I laughed out loud at Miss Julia and the crazy situations she gets herself into. I hope there is another book on the way.
