Maureen Schlukbier was born and educated outside of Toronto. She studied communications in college and worked as a writer/producer in television advertising. She continued freelance writing when her family moved to California, but her real passion has always been sharing stories with children. Her native island in Parry Sound, Ontario, is home to many characters in her stories, like Chretian the snapping turtle, who breaks through the ice in spring to visit her every year, and Waffle the little lost bear.
Maureen currently lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and works in the Wake County Public School System. Miss S. Goes to Mars was written to educate and inspire a difficult class. Each of the students played an important role in this funny, witty, educational story.
