Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This book is the first in the series of "Miss Trimble's Trapdoor" books which strive to teach history and a moral lesson to children through a fun, story-like approach. One day the main character, Tyler, a struggling student is sent to the back of the room where he discovers a trap door in the floor. When he inadvertently falls through the door, he discovers a basement with history books and a magical talking dog, Barnabas Bailey. Barnabas helps Tyler travel into the past to learn about history. Tyler tries to impress his classmates with his knowledge of the door, but learns that being boastful and attempting to earn the favors of others will not help him in his life. This particular book serves mainly as an introduction to the characters and the concepts of the series. The actual historical learning from this book is very limited. Teachers might enjoy using this first book as a class read-aloud. Reviewer: Jody Little

    Outstanding in every way!

I am responding to this superbly written book as both a parent and a teacher. My 3rd grade son literally couldn't put this book down. He read it all in one sitting and said he could see it as a TV series. My 5th grade students absolutely enjoyed it as well. They could hardly wait for me to begin reading the second book in the series. We are anxiously awaiting more Miss Trimble books. They teach not only history lessons, but also teach life lessons that children of all ages can relate to!

Wonderful way to introduce children to history

We absolutely loved this book. I read this book to my daughter over the course of two nights and she loved it. Shes 4 yrs old so not quite in the age range but she loved the illustraions and the dog Barnabas. She was even asking questions about the Declaration of Independence. I have always been a lover of history and am estatic that this book peaked her interest in the subject at such a young age.

A Wonderful Way To Make History Fun and Kid Friendly While Still Being Accurate and Educational

From the first page, with the engaging illutrations, to the wonderful characters and fun lessons, Mrs. Trimbles's Trap Door had my kiddo engrossed from page one. This book series is to history what the Magic School Bus was to science. It takes important historical lessons and ties them to the reader. It instructs without being a textbook. The characters become your child's friends and they enjoy the book. I can't wait to buy my 10 year old more books as they come out. Great series!

    Great Book!!

Miss Trimble's Trapdoor is such a great book. It really sends out a great message to kids out there that have trouble in school. It also teaches kids that learning can be fun and exciting. I love the pictures in the book. They are bright and go with the story very well. My son loved this book. We can't wait for book 3 to come out so we can find out what else Tyler is going to do and learn.
