Overview

The third of six CD volumes featuring Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band has some of the later performances by the ensemble including some music recorded after Miller's death. Mostly taken from radio broadcasts, a nearly-complete program from November 17, 1944 is followed by large- and small-band performances from the next few weeks, selections with the orchestra (which was then headed by Ray McKinley) in May 1945 and a broadcast featuring the band's string section on a set of ballads. Although not quite essential, this highly enjoyable program is easily recommended to Glenn Miller fans. The string arrangements are often-touching and there are some good jazz solos on the program by clarinetist Peanuts Hucko, pianist Mel Powell and various horn players.
