Children's Literature - Children's Literature
Next-door neighbors, Simon and Molly, are best friends and love to play hide-and-seek. They play the game the same way every day. In fact, whenever Simon is it, Molly hides in the same place. One day, Simon decides hide-and-seek is too easy and no longer any fun. So Molly tries hiding under the bed the next time. Simon still thinks this is too easy. When Simon comes to play the next day, Molly is nowhere to be found! Simon looks under the sink, under the bed, behind the chair, in the broom closet, in the laundry hamper and toy box. He looks everywhere but cannot find Molly. Just as Simon is beginning to feel sad, the doorbell rings. The strange girl at the door says she is also looking for Molly. Together, Simon and the strange girl search inside and out. When they don't find Molly, Simon grows even sadder. He misses his best friend--or does he? Simon is suddenly surprised when the stranger throws off her disguise. Yes, it was Molly all along! This was an interesting game of hide-and-seek! Young readers can help Simon search while laughing along with Molly. The accompanying pictures are multicultural and joyful. 2000, Houghton Mifflin, Ages 3 to 6, $15.00. Reviewer: Leslie Julian
