Overview

Zeke Malone is a Mississippi crook who has plenty of money and power. He was raised to believe that Cordella, the woman who seduced and married his great grandfather years ago, put a curse on his family. In his mind, the only way to break that curse is to mix his blood with that of her bloodline. Zeke manipulates Cordella's great grandson, Buford Starling, into handing over his beautiful 15-year-old daughter, Hazel Starling. After Hazel is drugged and wedded to Zeke, she escapes to California, where she thinks she will be safe. Unbeknownst to her, Zeke watches her every move for years, as she is busily raising their daughter, the lovely Chloe Rose. But it turns out that Zeke Malone is not the only Malone who is interested in the Starling family. Chris Malone, Zeke's great nephew, grew up seeing photos of Chloe Rose, and he has his own obsession to deal with.

Author Vicky Renee Johnson gets her greatest inspiration from her Irish heritage. Johnson enjoys working as a nurse who specializes in care for the elderly. She grew up in Amory, Mississippi, and that is where she continues to work and write.

I think this woman wwrote this about me. I am Zeke Malone. And I am not crazy. The women in my family act just like the witches in this here book. I liked the book .. I read it on my wifes electric book when our cable went out. it was good. Then She got me to read the next book by this woman. I am enjoying it too. She needs a main character named Bubba. Thats all thats missing. lol

If there were zero stars, I would give it. Unrealistic storyline and plot, lack of connectivity from one event to the next, improbable and superficial characterization, and basically a totally unbelievable story. Discerning readers will find this an insulting waste of time. Don't read it.

This was a good suspensful novel with a lot of hometown southern charm. A good read.

This book is not very good at all. The story is ridiculous and the characters are so far from plausible that its almost funny. I read bits from page 7 out loud to my boyfriend while he washed the dishes and we chuckled at how outlandish it was at such an early point in the book. Dont waste your dollar or your time.

I rated this book four stars because it's a VERY creative and interesting story. I would have given it five if it didn't require serious editing for grammar and other issues. Much of the dialogue sounded stilted, possibly because normally spoken contractions were rarely used. The detailed genealogy in the beginning of the book was very confusing. Sometimes the character's names were incorrect, like Chris where it should have said Sean. After editing, this will be a fantastic book and I agree it would make an AWESOME movie. I hope someone picks it up!
