Great Series. Any fans of fantasy books will enjoy.

I had been reading Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time and frankly was a little bored with book #10 Crossroads of Twilight when I saw that Brandon Sanderson had just finished book #12 The Gathering Storm for Mr. Jordan. I read a few paragraphs at random and felt compelled to read more as I had Jordan's earlier books in the series. I wanted to see how Brandon Sanderson's own work compared so bought the Mistborn trilogy. Frankly it was a quick and exciting read right from the start. I have recommended it to several relatives and friends - no one has been disappointed.

    Absolutely Stunning

First of all, let me say that Brandon Sanderson has one of the best writing styles i have ever seen. I would nearly classify him with Raymond E. Feist, author of the Riftwar saga and the related series. All three of these books were able to capture my attention so thouroughly that sleeping was not an option. The imagery of the surroundings leaves something to be desired, but he makes up for it in plotline and character development. The first book was, in my own opinion, the best. Mr. Sanderson has created a marvellous piece of art; one that I would reccommend to any lover of science fiction and/or fantasy.

    A very original world

Sanderson creates a very unique world, dark and post modern. The first book in the series is a triumph in characters, action, and an odd magical convention that works extremely well. We fall in love with Vin, a beaten down little girl who finds strength in an unusual cast of friends. Book two is very entertaining as well, but begins to get bogged down in the mythology and slips from book one's intense action. Book three is almost entirely dedicated to philosophy and mythology. There is some action but it lacks the energy and depth of the first book. A common mistake in fantasy is to take on the entire Universe of good versus evil. Sanderson makes this mistake in the second and third books of the series. The plot gets too big, and suddenly we stop caring about the characters that we were invested in from the first book.

    Great Addition to the Genre

I think Sanderson has written a trilogy rich in cultural relevance while still providing that escape that fantasy readers love. This is not high fantasy, but I think it has certain appeals that fans of high fantasy enjoy--like superior religious and ethnic development of peoples. I also enjoy the political development in the books. This is a very unique trilogy written by an author with the talent for new and interesting worlds and magics of L.E. Modesitt (perhaps a bit more...I do love Modesitt, though). It's no wonder Sanderson was chosen to finish Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.

    Awesome fantasy

My husband read it at night instead of sleeping-he could not stop. He talked me into reading to. I did not like the beginning first, but as I kept on going - it was very hard to stop and go to work. I could not wait to com back to see how story goes. It has very unique fantasy, action, battles, romance, intrigue, and characters are awesome! The third book is my least favorite, it was a bit too much pondering on right/wrong but still plenty of action. At the end I cried as usual.
    Highly recommend to read!

Sanderson can always impress with his detailed handling of new w

Sanderson can always impress with his detailed handling of new worlds, magical laws, and of course his signature (and elegant) martial fight scenes, but the Mistborn trilogy is still his greatest work so far. He leads you with secret after secret in his dark, yet enchanting, fantasy world, until you learn there's always a more incredible reveal right around the corner. Add bonus: Vin may be the best and most interesting female lead character I have ever read in fantasy.

Bit of a cross between The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Narnia and maybe Star Wars?

WOW! I'm impressed! I'm generally a fast reader but there is so much detail and information you can't just breeze through it. I wouldn't recommend this book for a young age; maybe early teens? The fight scenes are awesome and intense but graphic.
It is hard to give another series as a comparison. There is this great Power/Ruler that exists and that made me think of Lord of the Rings. The setting reminded me of Harry Potter's; cobblestone streets, old cities: some with walls around them, no guns and a type of "magic" is used that we have ever seen. Nothing hocus pocus here, it is all about the use of metals. I threw Narnia in because this series gives characters something to believe in, though it isn't really religious. I think what reminded me of Star Wars is the fact that the battles are epic and intense; no light sabers, swords are used. That and there are a couple groups of "people" this writer created that made me think they would fit in at the Star Wars bar. But they aren't so out there that it is silly.
If you like fantasy books then you will love this! If you're not a fan of one of the series I compared this to, still give it a try. It is very original and SO action packed.

    Hard to put down

I would rank this work up with the Tad Williams Dragon Bone series, one of my favorites. Something the whole family can read. I plan on reading more of Brandon Sanderson work.

    This Will Be A Classic!

Where have I been? How come I haven't read Brandon Sanderson before? Sanderson has wonderful, rich dynamic characters. I like the balance between the external and internal struggles they face. His magic system is wonderful and unique! Wonderful plot twists and turns. I read every single word written on the page--that's how good this book is. I usually find myself skimming through sections of books that don't further the characterizations or the plot, but this book held me captive to each and every word and concept. This is a must read for the genre, and I would even reccomend it to someone interested in branching into Fantasy for the first time, though the Mistborn series might ruin all other fantasy for them as it is sooo good. How can Sanderson write such thick books that seem to whiz by? His pacing is incredible and his writing is excellent--it will endure the test of time.

    The Final Empire

I honestly would have to say that this is the best series I have ever read. The first one is the the single best book but if you read the first you absolutely must read the other two to have everything answered. It is 100% worth it to read this series if not own it. It is absolutely amazing!

    Absorbing and rewarding

The trilogy made a great and absorbing read. Although it took me a little while to get hooked in the first book, once I could turn my attention to it for a solid hour of reading, I was sold and ready to drive through to the end.

    Good Start

The first book in the series caught my attention right away. The story was good and the world he created was highly original. Loved the first book from beginning to end, the second book couldn't hold my attention the same way though. I made it through the second and third books mainly to see how the story ended.

    Well written story

This trilogy is well written and the concept of how the special abilities of the characters work is very unique. Mr. Sanderson's writing has improved much since Elantris, and I would be willing to read this trilogy again and again.
