When my son was young, we read this book so much, he knew every word by heart and when to turn the pages, even though he couldn't read. I was so excited to find Mr. Dog again, now that my son has his first child, so he can enjoy reading it to her. It is a well written, cute Little Golden Book and I would highly recommend it to anyone with small children. My son was thrilled and remembered the book well.
My favorite book as a child. But the author is MARGARET WISE BROWN who much later wrote GOODNIGHT MOON! Garth Williams is the illustrator. Get it right, Barnes and Noble.
I am sixty-one years old now and I remember my mother reading this to me as a little girl. I read this book to all of my children and then to my grand daughter. It is just a darling story about an independent old dog who likes his own company AND strawberries. ... until.... he meets a lonely little boy to share his life with. The story ends with Good Night and Sweet Dreams and that's how I always ended my night's reading with my children - Mr. Dog or not. So, he's a grand old dog... and a marvelous book... and will forever in my heart also be a part of my family.
This is a wonderful story of an independent dog who loves a boy.It was a favorite of the whole family. I remember it so well from my childhood. Later, when I was grown, my parents had an identical looking dog named 'Crispy' after Crispins Crispian.
