Overview

REAL PLEASURE CAN'T BE TAKEN.

Granddaughter of a renowned courtesan, Maybelle de Maitenon has no interest in her grandmother's school in London where gentlemen receive instruction-in the art of seduction. Her only desire in life is to remain independent, free from men and the shackles of marriage. But when Maybelle lays eyes on Edmund Worthington, the Duke of Rutherford, at a soir‚e, and hears of his scandalous reputation, she decides he's the perfect person for her to have a tryst with no strings attached.

IT MUST BE GIVEN.

Unbridled passion has again muddied Edmund Worthington's family name. After his very public
dalliance with the strikingly beautiful and sensual Maybelle, his mother insists he marry her. But much to the Duke's surprise, Maybelle scoffs at his proposal. Never has he encountered such a brazen-and maddeningly irresistible-woman. But when Maybelle's grandmother falls ill, forcing Maybelle to take over the operation of her school, Edmund devises a plan to make her his. He enrolls in the school, where no one other than Maybelle must give him expert lessons in carnal pleasure.

"A smart and sexy story by a wonderful new author. I loved it!"

Review by: The Reading Reviewer (marygramlich.com)

Delilah Marvelle has a first time success with this wonderful and endearing book!

Maybelle de Maitenon has known the grief of losing one's parent and being uprooted from your home at a young age. Since she was 15 she has lived with her Grand-mère and tried to recover from the embarrassment of knowing her grandmother lived the life of a courtesan. How is a woman to meet a man of respectability when your grandmother refuses to act the way it is expected in proper English society within the Ton.

Lord Edmund Worthington, the sixth duke of Rutherford has known all these things as well and the ton has yet to let him forget the humiliation brought upon Edmund when his father committed suicide in the bed of his lover who happened to be Edmund's fiancé. Such mistakes are never forgiven or forgotten upon England's societal elite.

Maybelle craves respectability and the freedom to travel to Egypt and see the Pyramids before they are completely pillaged by archeologists. Edmund fears the possibility of ever loving and depending on anyone else who could embarrass him and bring more shame upon his family. The last thing these two need is to ever meet!

But fate has its own idea of how things should play out and everything changes one night when Maybelle decides it is time to experience everything about lovemaking and lust without attachment. When she encounters Edmund in the garden at a social event she boldly propositions him and without care or thought to sensibility they both start down a path that will forever change their lives. While Maybelle thought she was looking for a one night adventure what she all too soon discovers is the possibility of love and a lifetime of unbearable and exquisite pleasure. Edmund wants to take her as his wife and throw the respectability of the Ton in the wind but is that a possibility with a free spirit who is not quite ready to settle down and give up her hard fought for freedom.

What happens next no one could expect but after Maybelle's grandmother suffers a stroke she is forced to take over the School of Gallantry where young men are taught the art of seduction, love making and pleasure. Maybelle has but one night of experience yet her grandmother feels that with her instruction and that one experience she will be able to lead these men through their lessons. What Maybelle doesn't know is Edmund is one of these men and she must not only teach him but fight off all his advances toward making her his wife. How can she possibly deal with her feelings for Edmund, maintain her freedom and try to achieve what might be a normal and proper life. This is the quandary facing Maybelle and how she works through it is both fascinating and very endearing.

This first book for Delilah Marvelle is well written with well developed and interesting characters but also one that makes you feel not only the pain of loss but the excitement and passion of first love. Maybelle and Edmund are very tortured characters but you never feel they are wallowing in grief just trying to establish themselves with dignity in a world filled with very proper people leading most improper lives. I look forward to the other books in this series and know they will be as delightful as this one.

    Sexy and oh so good

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book and read it...I was not disappointed. For her debut book --- Delilah had me in stitches I never laughed so hard in all my life when reading some of the scenes. The sexual tension between Edmund and Maybelle was so well written you could just feel it. The sex scenes were well written. Edmund's mother the Duchess was so down to earth and ruled her son with a firm but loving hand....I loved the way Edmund listen to his mother. Maybelle's grandmere was a woman before her time. Get comfy on your couch or favorite reading chair and kick back and enjoy a light-hearted funny read. I can't wait to read Hawksford story next. I'm looking forward to reading more books by her.

    HOT, HOT, HOT!!! Sinfully delicious!,

It is only on occasion that I read a book in its entirety, but I read MISTRESS OF PLEASURE in one sitting. This book offeres a unique premise where the head-mistress of the School of Gallantry teaches men the art of seduction. I was surprised by how emotionally connected I became to Edmund and Maybelle as well as the other characters in the story. This was a fun, witty read, laced with tons of sexual tension and wicked play.

    Truly a Pleasure

Mistress of Pleasure is fun. It's delightfully, intriguingly, authentically, historically, fascinatingly sexy. And it's wonderfully well-researched and totally convincing.

Maybelle, brought up by her French courtesan grandmother, is really more into smuggling intellectual tomes under the bed-sheets than hiding porn. But she loves her grandmother and somehow ends up giving lessons in the School of Gallantry, where young men are taught, rather explicitly, how to win the undying devotion of their dear young women. Chapters start with delightful quotes from the school's guide book, then continue to both illustrate the quote and carry the story forwards. Meanwhile Maybelle, who thought perhaps losing her virginity would free her from the romantic indignities of society, finds herself falling and fallen for in the most entertaining way.

The story had me laughing out loud, smiling in satisfaction, and generally feeling like the cat that had got at the cream. I had no idea I was going to enjoy it so much, but enjoy it I did, and I'm sure I'll enjoy meeting the characters again in the sequel. A thoroughly entertaining read.

    Mistress Of Pleasure

Maybelle de Maitenon is the granddaughter of a great French courtesan. After her grandmother's stroke, she has to take over the School of Gallantry, and teach five gentleman the art of seduction. One of those gentleman is the Duke of Rutherford, the man she gave her virginity to during a soiree. When the Dukes mother finds out she forces Edmond Worthington to propose to Maybelle and wed her. But Maybelle doesn't want marriage. Maybelle has seen what love does to a person and she wants her independence. It's up to Edmond to change her mind.

Where was I when this book came out last year? It's wonderful and it's very sexual. What other author has put dildo's into their work? I just read where Kensington is dropping this wonderful author, after her next book Lord of Pleasure, which is Lord Hawksfords. I hope that another house will pick Ms. Marvelle up.

    I want more Delilah Marvelle

Ever read a book and its almost too good? Thats how I felt about this book. I didn't want it to end. I read slowly. I treated it like a decadent dessert. I wanted to savor each morsel, each character and each moment of sexual tension. Trust me...there is sexual tension. Sometimes when a new author publishes a book-well I'm a little hesitant to pick up the book. It is the first book after all. Well this book has made me rethink my smallmindedness. Delilah Marvelle with her refreshing voice and warm sensuality quickly became my FAVORITE AUTHOR. I look forward to reading many of her books. This lady has talent and I certainly can't wait to read her next book, Lord of Pleasure!

    Original. Hot and Happy

This is a very intruiging book. It manages to lace more than a usual level of sensuality into a very interesting and funny story. I was in stiches during many of the scenes, especially between the hero and the students. The author has created a fantastic amount of tension, a remarkable heroine, and a yummy hero. The School of Gallantry? Sign me up.... and my Boyfriend too. I won't give you a play by play of the plot, I think the excerpt does a good job. But if you want to be fanning yourself and get a nice dose of comedy at the same time, Mistress of Pleasure will do the trick.
