I've never seen an independent work formed from deleted scenes from a novel before, and maybe I should have read the novel first, but this worked for me just fine on it's own. I'm pretty curious about the novel now and I ought to check that out too. This is different from the other works of Sirois I've seen, more subtle. The writing is poetic and starkly moving. Graphic reality in parts and fanciful strangeness in others, this is an impressive short work.
