Modern Magick is Amazing

This is one of the best books on Magick ever written. It gives clear, concise instruction and is easy to follow. I would recommend this book to anyone who is remotely interested in Magick and/or Tarot. Buy it, you'll like it !!! Thanks for bringing this latest revision to the Nook!!! I have been watching for this particular B&N ebook every day for the last month. I hope you bring over a few others - "The Golden Dawn", "The Mystical Qabalah", "The Tree of Life", "A Garden of Pomegranates", "Magick in Theory and Practice" to name a few.

A Book On High Magick - Average At Best

I began reading this book as a member of an online Pagan Book Club. I read the first three chapters and could not go on. I find the information to be inter-related with Christianity and found the author to be quite trite with his information. I do not recommend this book to anyone that cannot wrap their mind around the concept of Christian Wicca.

    Warning

So effective I thought it might be a good idea to post a warning here. For instance, the exercise in which you create and empower an astral entity to take on the attributes of one of your own shortcomings could be extremely dangerous; it has been my experience that it is much more difficult to banish energy than it is to form it. The trouble with many magicians is that they are working with forces they cannot see. This is a distinct disadvantage if these forces decide to take advantage of you. I suggest the magical student practice protection and intuitive techniques before performing any entity creating or invoking exercises- and the more accomplished the magician, the more protection he or she will need.

    meh

a very good 101 beginning to ceremonial and Kabbalah magic. The part that drove me batty and made it difficult to read was the preaching. The constant ethics preaching was so irritating that I could barely read it, I am 50, I have my ethics well in hand, and none of them are the same as the authors. The book was so preachy that it almost seemed that the author was terrified if we didn't follow them something bad would happen.
But, since the actual teaching of the magic was very good so I gave it 3 stars, otherwise I would have given it one star.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

This is a GREAT beginner's book!

I can't say enough about "Modern Magick", it truly is an excellent introduction into the workings and practices of Ceremonial Magic, High Magic, or Hebrew Mysticism; namely: The Kabalah.

Kraig writes clearly and with an ease of voice which makes the text truly pleasant to read. Furthermore, he is careful not to bombard the reader with an overabundance of complicated tables, diagrams, and theory. Kraig writes for the lay-occultist, newbie magician, or budding witch, and I have chosen this book as a gift several times for friends who are experimenting with magical theory for the first time.

This book can be used as a companion or guide to working with both the Lesser, and Greater Keys of Solomon the King. The LBRP, specifically, is an excellent High Magic ritual.

No matter what magical tradition you espouse, you can find meaning and inspiration, not to mention a few nice chunks of solid Ceremonial Magic ritual and practice, from this book.

    Changed My Life

I was surprised to see bad reviews for this book. For me, it changed my life!

I first bought it in 1998 and still go back to it as a reference point for myself. I remember starting out with the rituals and feeling tentative. Slowly and steadily I continued until I started to feel myself changing and my mind expanding. True, it's not an easy read. You won't accomplish much by rushing through it. But like life itself, the deeper meanings show themselves with time and patience.

I love this book. It's changed my life for the better. It's introduced me to other forms of magick and for that I am eternally grateful.

    skip the first 3 chapters

I'm already pretty good with my own style of craft. I got this book to see different point of views and techniques. Sadly to say I couldn't make it past the first two chapters. I personally don't believe that you can be a Christian Wicca. I still would like to understand it more but the information that author gives you is way to repetitive. Don't let this lure you away from the book as it is just my own personal option and your thoughts may vary.

    Good for Ceremonial Magicians

This is an excellent book if you wish for Ceremonial teachings and the basic definitions of Magick. As you go on, depending on what you are looking for, it may have it. Sadly, I agree with others It dwells into the Judeo-Christian forms of Occultist Arts. That is just a pity, as they mix only very little, or in the very beginnings of Judaism. That is about it. I would recommend this book as a knowledge source and something to read for different points of views. Remember, one point of view is never correct, incorporate all you can. The Occult Arts can lead to everything and nothing at once, pure peace yet disruption. The true form.

Modern Magick: the first complete manual I have seen

An excellent book for beginners and advanced magicains alike. One of the only books I have ever seen that includes the instruction for the mental conditioning needed to perform magick. Contrary to popular belief, magick can not be performed overnight, and this book doesn't let you think that so you will buy it. Leaves out nothing the high magician needs.

    Simpler than you think

When i first read this it was a little too much, but 10 years later i realise it is one of the best and simplest descriptions of the Western tradition and its Work. Read it, follow it, do it.
