As famous Jazz guitarist, Mike Stern, said ¿¿[Modern Method for Guitar Book is] the best method ever written for guitar.¿ When someone that well-known, that well-respected, comments on a book by the Berklee Press, you have just got to believe it. The ¿Modern Method for Guitar Book¿ now includes a DVD-ROM, so players can understand it better. Even without the DVD-ROM, this book is still very clear with its explanations on various things such as scales, melodic studies, chord and arpeggio studies, how to read music, special exercises for developing technique in both hands, and chord voicing. I have been using this book for a year, and constantly reviewing the pages I have already finished. I have noticed that I am a lot better at reading music than I used to be, and even my hearing is a lot better as I have focused on chord voicing. I would recommend a private instructor to help you throughout this book If you don¿t know where to start, START WITH THIS ONE! I guarantee this book is worth going through! And if you¿re really driven, go for Volume 2 and Volume 3! Hey, if you¿re not driven, just do it. It will be WORTHWHILE.

Working through this book has made me so much better. You don't realize how much better you are getting until you have a jam or a rehearsal and find yourself gliding effortlessly into previously uncharted musical territory. If you can read music and are serious about playing guitar, I would say this is a must-have book for you.
