Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Mention mummies and the world of ancient Egypt comes instantly to mind. But this book throws light on a completely different type of preserved body. Martin leads the reader on a tour of bodies frozen in ice and preserved in salt water; through Communist countries' personality cults that decreed the preservation of Vladimir Lenin, Josef Stalin, Mao Tse-tung, Ho Chi Minh and Kim Il Sung; and into the modern science of cryonics. While some young—and old—readers may find this unpleasant to the point of unreadable, other young enthusiasts of all things gross and creepy will be enthralled. The book is well illustrated with large photographs, and various sidebars and "Edge Facts" further break up the text. Back matter includes a glossary and an index, as well as suggestions for further reading. This book is part of the "Edge Books" series. 2005, Capstone Press, Ages 8 to 11.
