Modern Pioneering is a colorful and informative book loaded with recipes and all kinds of tips for survival. The Gardening section is perfect for both the beginner and the expert. It tells you what kinds of tools you'll need and how to start your seedlings. There are instructions for making raised beds of all kinds and even how to distress wood. Georgia Pellegrini shows you how to start your garden and how to grow it, and in the Home section, she tells you how to preserve its produce and how to cook up quick and easy recipes. This section includes lots of neat tips for your pantry. In the Wild section, she shows you what kinds of plants are edible and she even shows you how to make the coolest pocket-sized 48-hour survival kit! The last section is filled with all kinds of tips and tricks for living like a modern pioneer. Such a fun and interesting book! You go girl! I saw an interview with author Georgia Pellegrini on Bloomberg TV and it was impressive how she seriously stood up to their challenging questions with confidence and pride. As they pushed questions of whether or not she supported gun access (really), I realized how differently this way of life can be seen to others. It seems perfectly normal to me to connect with ones roots, live with less, and get back to the basics - and it's from that place that I receive this book as a great guide on self-sufficient living. Its exciting to see someone so composed, from the world of high-finance, to radically change their life and share it with the world.
