    I Also Recommend:

The book (based on the comic) that started it all.

It's great to see tht Peter O'Donnell's Modesty Blaise series is being re-issued. I had to purchase my copy off of e-bay a few years ago, but new or used, this book is worth the read. It's an origin story that tells how Modesty Blaise, the former head of a crime organization, now retired, is approached by British Intel. (Sir Gerald Tarrant) to "help" investigate an orgainzation somewhat similar to her former group, "The Network". This book, written in the early 60's (and basis for an awful movie that has more in common with Austin Powers than it does with O'Donnell's characters) is a fun escape, not only for it's great characters, fabulously described locations and edge-of-your-seat plot, but also for it's glimpse into the the past. Modesty has "retired" to a fabulous penthouse apartmnt in London (she's a post-war DP marries a Brit for citizenship -- no illegal immigration for this gal!)on -- get this -- about a million pounds sterling that she's saved up. Even at a great exchange rate, a million pounds wouldn't be enough to retire on in today's world! Especially if you have the fabulous clothes, jewelry cars, weapons and lifestyle depicted in Peter O'Donnell's books and comics. It's a lesson about economic inflation as well as a rip-roaring read. A perfect book for the beach, boat or backyard hammock. You'll be addicted to Modesty and Willie Garvin's adventures, and thank heaven there's more!
