Editorial Reviews

E. Quinn Regan
The third edition of this comprehensive textbook has added the newer surgical techniques to the strong background on scoliosis present in the previous editions; the last edition was published in 1987. The purpose is to present the philosophies, initially laid down by Dr. Moe, of the treatment of scoliosis and the new applications of these philosophies using the recent developments of treatment modalities. The changes are a welcome addition to a strong textbook for the study of scoliosis. The book is written for physicians and health care professionals with a strong interest in scoliosis, not only those dealing with surgical treatments but also for those using nonsurgical treatments for patients with scoliosis. It is intended as a reference for an orthopedic surgeon who may occasionally treat a patient with scoliosis, or as a textbook to be read by those who are constantly treating patients with scoliosis. The four main authors have had extensive experience in treating patients with scoliosis and are credible authorities. The x-rays are well presented for various examples of different types of scoliosis, following the natural history of scoliosis along with the operative treatment for patients with curves. The references have been updated from the previous edition and are up-to-date. The appearance of the book is clean and it presents the material in a nice fashion. This new edition updates the already excellent textbook on scoliosis for health care professionals treating patients with curvature of the spine. The new edition has incorporated the newer spinal implants and newer techniques in treatment options for patients with spinal deformities. This is a must-read textbook for the newpractitioner caring for patients with scoliosis, and it will be a welcome update for anyone who has the second edition.
