Overview

The tale of a girl and her mecha.

Freya works the fields of her parents' farm with the help of Mohi, a semi-intelligent robot. Once, Mohi fought in the war against the mysterious Xenos, but that's all over now. Nothing exciting's ever going to happen on the colony world of Neper again, no matter how much Freya wishes something would.

But then she gets her wish, and it changes everything. She will finally get her excitement, will finally be the hero, but the cost may be more than she can bear.

"Mojito Doomsday" is a YA science-fiction short story set in the universe of Jonathan L. Howard's Russalka Chronicles, as featured in the novels KATYA's WORLD and KATYA'S WAR. It is self-contained and requires no knowledge of the novels.

About the Author

Jonathan L. Howard is an author, scriptwriter, and game designer. He writes the Johannes Cabal series and the Russalka Chronicles YA SF series, currently comprising of KATYA'S WORLD and KATYA'S WAR. He lives in the UK with his wife and daughter.

"Howard's characters, relentless imagination, twisting plotlines, and use of language make the Johannes Cabal series a real pleasure to read." Richard Kadrey, author of the Sandman Slim novels.

"Johannes (Cabal) is one of the most interesting fictional characters of our still-new century." Huffington Post

"Jonathan L. Howard is a supremely talented writer and the Johannes Cabal series makes for superb reading. It would be easy at this point to say that if you like Rankin or Fforde or Pratchett or Holt then you will love these books, but while it may well be true it would be doing Howard a disservice." Sci-Fi-London

"(KATYA'S WAR is) is a highly effective, thought provoking novel." Philip Reeve, author of the Predator Cities series.

"A really well imagined world, detailed and utterly believable, great mix of technical detail and breathless action." Charlie Higson, author of the Young Bond series.

"Imagine THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER meets RETRIBUTION FALLS. Rich in the character development and packed full of underwater wonders from prow to stern, KATYA'S WORLD is exactly enjoyable as all that." Niall Alexander, Tor.com
