Overview

How to Make Every Moment of Every Day Count

Every moment of every day, you have a choice to make. You can either let the minutes pass you by or you can claim them for what they are: opportunities to unlock the full depth of life's potential. For Carlos Whittaker, renowned blogger, musician and worship leader, and husband and dad, living deliberately is a way of life. Making moments that are significant, memorable, or impactful are a part of how he navigates each day, and it has forever changed the landscape of his story.

In Moment Maker, Carlos explains his methodology for living intentionally and claiming moments that touch the lives of others, whether that be his family, his friends, his colleagues, or total strangers. Carlos isn't asking anyone to make a big investment in time, energy, or money. He is simply uncovering the investment of attention. You don't have to buy tickets to special events or orchestrate elaborate surprises. You just have to be aware—of your surroundings, the people you encounter, the things that interest those important to you, the opportunities that present themselves—and be prepared to seize those moments and see lives changed.

This is such a good book! I can honestly say that it is the only e-book I have ever highlighted anything in.

I tend to be very comfortable in routine, but this book really made me think about how I could step out of my comfort zone to make great memories for myself, my family, my friends, and complete strangers.

It's a quick read, with great flow. I highly recommend it if you are looking for ways to really live life instead of just letting life happen to you.

At a time when so many people look at Christians as fake and hypocritical, Carlos is a breath of fresh air. His authenticity and willingness to share his journey with others, the good times and the bad, is refreshing. This book is a testament to his life-long desire to inspire greatness in others by seizing a moments and turning an ordinary encounters, chance meetings, or terrible experiences into lasting memories. It's transparent and authentic. Carlos does a masterful job weaving brief glimpses of his personal story with with his family and his faith in such a way that inspires others to do the same - to become Moment Makers; turning moments in time into stories worth reading. It doesn't take a major event to create a meaningful moment. Thanks for sharing yours with others, Los!

Bringing laughter and tears this book warmed my soul with the knowledge that I have a true choice in how I live my life. Armed with examples of Christ and scripture Carlos Whittaker takes us through some incredible moments in his life and teaches the reader how to make the most of these moments whether they are created, received or rescued.
I completed this entire book in hours and look forward to reading this again. Being able to see a sneak peek into these moments of Carlos’s life is what makes this book a must read. Carlos is raw and real in these pages and doesn’t hold back when he tells his story. I think every single person can gain something from these stories and parallels to the life of Christ since we all go through a period in our lives when we wonder why we are here and what we are supposed to be doing with this life.
Go grab your own copy and start living on purpose & with purpose!

The things Carlos Whittaker talks about in this book are and fee

The things Carlos Whittaker talks about in this book are and feel so known. For those familiar with the living in the present mentality, it will sound familiar. What I really like about this book, though, is that it's not a too energized book. I assume that many who read this, or want to read it, aren't that full of energy or ready to make bold statements, to make moments matter. Or maybe it's just me. The author is real. Straight talk. Doable strategy. This guy sure has something to say about making moments count. He rented a deck bus for his 40th birthday and invited his friends to join him on his celebration. He sang a worship song at The White House, in front of President Obama. He knows how to make moments count. Of course, most of us are "simple" people. But, he says, there's always the chance to create, receive, and rescue moments.

The book is divided into three main parts, which are titled just like that: 1. Created Moments, 2. Received Moments, 3. Rescued Moments. Each part deals with a way to deal with the moments and the opportunities that come our way. The mentality is somewhat along the lines of "Seize the moment" rather than "Seize the day".
Each part is presented through the lenses of his personal experiences and also a created, received and rescued moment as seen in the Bible. It's a new way to look at the Bible. Really liked that.

The book is a rather quick read. I enjoyed reading it. I think it's probably the first book I've read on this topic that doesn't put the pressure on you to not miss the moment(s), although this is exactly the message it is written around. It presents a mentality and offers the reader another choice. I like that.

Carlos Whittaker is a musician, a worship leader and a blogger, so he is a pretty popular presence on social media.
In his book, he explains the Moment Making theory and method. He breaks it down into three basic approaches: Created Moments, Received Moments and Rescued Moments. Each of these approaches contains an introduction and some personal examples of each of those moments. His stories are motivational and funny.
I liked his enthusiastic and passionate take on life, the Moment Making theory and then the explanations that come later in the book. All these determine you to be intentional about your Moment Making journey and at the same time, they give you some tools for starting with some pragmatic steps.
I loved the book and I would recommend it to those who want to enjoy life every little moment at a time, to those who want to get the best out of it, and to those who want to:
Live with purpose and on purpose.

Moment Maker is a must read! Throughout his book, Carlos Whittaker not only shares personal stories from his moment-making journey that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next, but he teaches us practical ways to apply the lessons he has learned to our own lives. He effectively blends his own unique personality with truths laid out in Scripture to create a book that when applied has the power to be world-changing. The book is a quick, easy read, but it is powerful!

Highly Recommend - A Must Read

Carlos is like a breathe of fresh air! Humorous, down to earth, brings Christians to the world where everyone else lives. His words hit home and are thought provoking in a gentle, nudging, funny, but in your face way, if that makes sense. He is just so real and like someone you know has experienced the touch of grace and the mercy of Jesus. Awesome book! I have the paperback and the nook version. His Facebook is also really wonderful and inspiring. He has a great family that he clealy loves deeply and an awesome dog named "Pope". Read the book and make a moment of laughter, joy, tears, and the love of Jesus for yourself. Not all of us have had perfect Christian lives but we still love Jesus who shows us mercy and grace everyday, as undeserving as we are, so imperfect. Carlos knows that deep down where it's real. Love this guy, his family, his dog and his book.

I am really glad that I read this book. So often I watch moments

I am really glad that I read this book. So often I watch moments happen around me and fail to jump into them. I think those moments are for others and maybe not for me. Carlos does a great job of being raw and open his stories and how the moments he has jumped into have not only changed him, but helped others.

Story after story tells of times that Carlos jumped into a moment and loved people for who they were and not for who or what he thought they should be. He shows how living out the gospel will not always fit in the mold of what our traditions have made Christianity to be and how loving people means reaching into the moment and taking hold of it.

One of my favorite quotes speaks volumes about who we are as a society, content to let moments happen, and speaks to our need to jump in to moments:

"When we are the moment, the moment become engrained in us. But when we are more concerned with having something to show for it, we miss out on the experience. We may have a photograph of our child's smile when they discover something new, but we didn't get to experience the discovery with them. When we are in the moment, the moment stays with us." (pg. 149)

If you love stories, this book will captivate you. If you love redemption, this book will encourage you. If you want see how loving like Jesus loves really looks, this book will show you.

As you will see Christianity isn't always pretty and taking advantage of a moment will sometimes lead to things you may not normally do. Carlos never asks you to compromise your faith, he simply asks you to take advantage of moments, to show others love, to make a difference in the world.

"Be a moment maker, not a moment taker."

Really enjoyed this book! It's a quick, engaging read and Carlos Whittaker is a
great storyteller. He draws you in with entertaining tales from his own
experiences with good and bad moments that will help you make the most of
the moments in your life. I enjoyed the humor and upbeat spirit of the book, and
it's one I would read again. The author is a Christian, but non-Christians will
enjoy it, too - the spiritual insights aren't preachy or heavy-handed, and usually
occur at the end of a section so you can skip over them if you like, but I think
most readers will appreciate an opportunity to view the moments he shares
    through a spiritual lense.

This book is engaging, entertaining, and enthralling. Through Carlos stories and examples of the lifestyle he introduces us to simply
as "Moment Making", we find ourselves poured into his steps and thrown into memory after memory of how he has been challenged
to make other people feel seen, important, and loved. The moments that he has shared with us, though some very personal and
bright burning failures in his own eyes give the reader a chance to see that even if the moment making isn't exactly one for YOU, it
can still impact others, and it can still help redeem that place in your heart that may still be full of shame even years upon years later.
We all have that tape reel re-playing and reliving moments in our heads every now and again of where we fell short, or what we should
have done differently- and Carlos invites us to grab hold of those moments when they are happening, or even before they happen to
accept them, and put yourself out there living your life, not letting it live you.

Some of my favorite quotes from Moment Maker are "Jesus served everyone he encountered. He was all about making the moments
with them about them-- showing them they were loved, that they were valued by their Father in heaven."

"When someone feels the true worth of who they are because you stopped what you were doing and made life about them, you can
have hit on an essential component of Moment Making."

"Jesus came to do something incredibly special for us. He came to make sure we knew our worth, our value to God."

"It's about making someone feel valued through that moment. Because of the thought you put into it. Because they know they are worth
     that much."

"That initial act is all that is needed sometimes to induce the little bit of bravery in someone that will set them free."

This book shatters our hiding in that place of inadequacy and doubt and teaches us that no matter where we are in our lives, no matter
what kind of Ragamuffin shape we are in, we can have an impact on the lives of others just by making an investment in them with just
a moment of our time. Shed your life of insecurity one moment at a time, loving others and setting their hearts free from the bondage
of being unseen, unheard, and unknown.

I will very happily recommend this book as I embark on my own journey of Moment Making!

Sometimes life is so very daily. We wake up and most days it feels like life is coming at us 150 miles an hour until it's time to turn off the lights and set the alarm so we can get up and do the very same thing the next day. In my quest to get everything done on my To Do list, I forget to stop to think about what in the world I'm really doing. This book was a perfect opportunity for me to stop and think about the moments that make up the days that make up the years that make up my life and my family's life.
This is probably one of those books I need to read once or twice a year just to remind myself that the moments are what matter most.
Moment Maker isn't a super cerebral read. It's a quick read. It feels more like a conversation you'd have with Carlos Whittaker sitting around a table, enjoying a meal, making moments. I appreciated that this book not only stresses the importance of intentional living, it also gives specific, creative examples of how Carlos and his family have and are making moments on a daily basis. I l also love that in every chapter Carlos includes times Jesus was a Moment Maker.
This is a great book to read with friends and family because it's full of stories and ideas you're going to want to discuss with the people in your life.

Just couldn't put this book down, or quit laughing while reading it.  Carlos Whittaker uses great humor throughout the book that makes very serious points, so you do not get lost at his meaning.  I was engaged from start to finish while reading Moment Maker.  There were so many sections that I highlighted and tagged.  At times I felt like I might end up highlighting most of the book.  I loved the end when he laid out that Moment Making is intentional, and the best moments just don't happen on a whim.  God doesn't just wave his finger and things happen, but he lays them out and we need to follow the same path.

The Moment Maker by Carlos Whitaker was an enjoyable journey of

The Moment Maker by Carlos Whitaker was an enjoyable journey of life's moments and understanding that each moment is yours to take! Using stories from his journey through life as well as the journey through marriage and fatherhood, Whitaker engages the reader in understanding that "Life is too big to fit in a bucket"! We need to look past the dreams and be involved in what is happening now! Through his transparency he speaks of three types of moments, those that are 1) Created, 2) Received, and 3)Rescued. He allows the reader to engage in understanding how each of these types of moments can change the direction you are headed and impact your life and the lives of those around you. Not all moments are happy but some can cause heartache and be a real struggle but it is how you handle the moment and the way you react which will change your mindset.

Carlos shows us that writing a book does not have to be done in a way that seems uptight, he brings his own take on writing and goes from the stage as a worship leader to the car on a long road trip with the family pet (a fish) and to the time where he thought that he had lost the love of his life, but throughout each event his Faith in Christ and his understanding of how to grasp the moment for what it is, shines through. He uses the smallest things in his life to create moments that may never come again but gives great ideas on how to grasp the moments for what they are. I recommend this book for those that are seeking change in their lives, for clearer vision on life, and for those that just need to slow down. Making Moments is not a hard thing to do. Take the time to stop and see your surroundings and what is happening at that specific time. From there you can make moments. Go pick up a copy and see what a moment can do for you.
