Overview

The American soldier is why General David Petraeus's brilliant strategy of moving soldiers off isolated bases and out among the Iraqi people worked. Worked to find and kill terrorists, reclaim neighborhoods and help lead Iraq to democracy. Iraqis respect strength. They saw that American soldiers are great-hearted warriors who rejoice in killing Al Qaeda terror gangs that took over whole cities, raped too many women and boys, cut off too many heads. But Iraqis also discovered that these great warriors are even happier rebuilding a clinic, school or neighborhood. They learned from the American soldier that the most dangerous man in the world could be the best man too. - Follow the great Deuce Four battalion that became the center of a warrior cult dreaded by terrorists and revered by Iraqis. - Read about an elite Iraqi SWAT team taking down a terror cell for the murder of four American soldiers and a brave Iraqi guide. - Occupiers, not liberators? Tell that to the wounded Iraqi interpreter, who, convinced he was about to die, begged his U.S. commander to have his heart cut out and buried in America.

    Moment of Truth.

This is the story of the soldiers, Marines who fought all over Iraq from a man who spent 2005 and 2007 in Iraq. There is no one better at telling the story of our people fighting over there. I recommend this book very highly. If you're a fan of his blog you recognize the stories, they are engrossing and they will make you proud of our men and women in uniform. Our leaders... well maybe not so much. Michael never pulls his punches so you will get the good and the bad. Buy it!

    What a wonderful tribute

I am the mother of 2 sons with the 101st Airborne, 1-187 and 1-327, presently fighting this war on the Iraq front. There are so many people in this country who have absolutely no understanding of this conflict or the job our soldiers are asked to do on a day-to-day basis. This book is the first I have come upon to put it out there...to honor our military leadership with the truth. For anyone voting for a new president this November, you MUST read this book and educate yourself. There is no agenda here...just bare-bone facts from someone who ate, slept, lived, and fought with our Soldiers. Thank you, Michael Yon.

    winning in iraq

michael yon is a former green beret and battlefield journalist and as a former soldier he has earned the respect and honor of all the brave men and women fighting in iraq as he covers their many acts of courage in this new best seller of his 'moment of truth in iraq' .This is an amazing book cause not only does he detail the many acts of heroism that never seem to reach the media but this amazing jounalist also covers the untold acts of kindness that our troops have performed in the line of duty:building clinics and getting much needed hospital care and getting special care to the iraqi civialians. this book was very hard to put down and was very special to read cause it was writtion by someone who was really there with the troops on the front lines and not behind a desk in some far away city. great gift idea for a friend or family member or soldier serving over seas.

Finally the truth that we are winning in Iraq

Since the end of 2004, Michael Yon has been in Iraq on his own and with various military groups. His book is honest about the mistakes and honest about the fact that we are now winning in spite of what you read in the news. He also lays out the consequences of failure. I hope every American reads this book and understands that we have been lied to for five years by most of the media on what is really happening in Iraq.

like a wack along the head

Michael writing is in this book and on his blogs brings the war in Iraq into your living room. His writing is hard hitting and brilliant that it's like getting hit with a brick in the face, the realization of Iraq is not on the nightly news or in the newspapers it's in Michael's book and his written updates and blogs. He has done and outstanding job of showing us the real side, the human side of the Iraq war. For it or against it, Michael tells us like it is.

If you know someone who has served in Iraq and you want an understanding of what the job means - get this book. I say this from personal experience. Michael Yon witnessed, photographed, and wrote about many incredible events of this war and the warriors who have represented our nation nobly - in circumstances we cannot begin to fathom. He took the risk of imminent danger with them and then honored them in these accounts: suspenseful, sometimes gut wrenching and sometimes heartbreaking, but always inspiring. And uplifting. He shows the heart of Iraq, the nation in making - and presents the tremendous risks taken by the Iraqis who have befriended our fellow Americans. And he shows the viciousness of the common enemy that those who seek freedom face.

    Contemporary History

This book should be the subject of a course at the military academies. It is the truth about what has, and is, happening in Iraq.

    A Real War Correspondent

Michael Yon has put himself in harm's way to report the reality of this conflict. He writes from the perspective of the combatants AND the Iraqi people. If you really want to understand the impact of the war on the people living through it, read this book. Michael, Ernie Pyle would be proud of your work.

    Good News!

It's time that the good that is happening in Iraq is told in such a convincing way. Keep up the good work!

    Outstanding!

Michael is the best. I've been reading his dispatches since day one. I have supported him in his quest for night vision gear and new cameras to replace busted cameras. You name it. This is a must read if you care about the war in Iraq.

    Thank you Yon

This a great book explaining what went wrong in Iraq and why our current strategy is working. Yon tells it like it is warts and all. You will have new appreciation for the bravery of our troops and their huge scarifices in an effort to give birth to a free and stable Iraq. He gives you a sense of the Iraqi people's hopes, dreams and daily struggles. Which not surprisingly are very much what any of us want for our families. He also gives you a blood chilling understanding of our enemy and their total disregard for human life and modern civilized behavior. Yon himself has made great personal sacrifices in order to bring this book to us. If for no other reason this is a good enough reason to purchase this book. No matter how you feel about this war you will not be disappointed in the unvarnished truth in this book.

    Insider's view of Iraq

I too have been following Michael's blogs and online writing. This book is so informative and needs to be spread to the masses so the truth can be known. The major media groups don't want us to know the truth. Thank you Michael, for giving it to us in such a way that we can feel as though we are there watching what our men and women are going through and what the Iraqi people have come to know as the truth about the American people.

    From a Major Fan

God Bless Michael Yon. I highly suggest both his autobiography, 'Danger Close' and this book. His writing is rugged and real. His honesty is disarming. I'm very proud to say I have an autographed copy too.

I've been reading Michael Yon for years now, online. I actually ordered a signed copy through his website, received it April 7 and had it finished by April 9. It is an excellent read, and did not disappoint. He lays out what went wrong, how we've been given a second chance to get things right, and how we can finally defeat the terrorists, IF we stick with the current, winning strategy implemented by General Petraeus. Yon spells out what we stand to gain by seeing this through to a clear victory, and also all that we could lose if we withdraw from this field of battle too soon.
