Children's Literature - Heidi Hauser Green
Here's a book for parents to read with their babies' older siblings, as a discussion-starter about breastfeeding. Twenty-eight full-color photographs show mothers nursing their children. The text follows a pattern. First, a reason is given. Then, the picture is shown. Finally, the sentence ends, "Mommy feeds Baby." One page reads "Because Baby wants to have a snack, Mommy feeds Baby." Another reads, "Because Mommy cares what Baby eats, Mommy feeds Baby." This isn't a scientific book detailing particular benefits to the baby's immunological function or gastrointestinal health. Rather, this is a family-centric book that highlights the act of breastfeeding baby as being natural and fulfilling. Some of the reasons include: "touch is so important to Baby," "Baby likes to hold Mommy," and "Baby is getting very sleepy." Other family members are engaged, too: "Daddy likes what is best for Baby," "Big Sister is watching," "I have a new baby brother." The pictures show mothers of a variety of ethnicities nursing their babies in a variety of locations, from home to food courts, parks to offices, nurseries to slings. It also shows them nursing with a variety of companions—babies sure, but also friends and family. This book serves to normalize breastfeeding, anytime, anywhere and it succeeds. My only quibble is with the stark white background of the cover and inside pages. Color would be easier on the eyes. Reviewer: Heidi Hauser Green

    I Love this Book

The photographs are adorable. This book captures the mother/baby relationship beautifully. Each page and picture tells a different, personal story; and the reader completes the story with her own breastfeeding picture and message.

    Such a lovely book!

This is a wonderful picture book for little ones. Parents will love the beautiful photographs, and the text is just perfect for babies and very young children. A special touch is at the end--a place for you to add your own photo of your baby feeding, with your own special words for your baby, to really make this book your baby's own. The subject makes it a natural for baby's first book. Really lovely, highly recommended.

No other book like it! A must buy for all!

This book honors and shows the special, natural gift of breastfeeding. Like no other book available, it puts an image and story of the natural way to feeding baby that you can share with your child(ren).
