Nominated by ForeWord Book of the Year Awards; Highlighted in Journal News-Westchester & Rockland editions; Channel 12 News, 100.7WHUD, N.County & Barnes & Noble Author Signing.

THIS BOOK IS FOR ALL THE "EVERYDAY" MOMS and ASPIRING MOMS who are the real heroes in changing the lives of those they touch! MommyBest: 13 Inspirational Lessons Derek & Dylan's Mom (and maybe yours) Never Learned in School celebrates heartfelt mommy moments, sprinkled with some parenting pragmatics. The book is uniquely formatted: a quick lesson; followed by a corresponding memoir; plus a "Reader Reflection" page so each mom may write down her thoughts to use as a keepsake and/or springboard to creating her family story. Every mom strives to be her MommyBest, and this book will help her learn ways to nurture her heart, mind and soul in order to do just that!
The lessons/memoirs are written with humor and candor, recognizing that each mom must follow her own unique path, ultimately making choices which reflect who she is at any given moment in her life. Mothers today continue to find themselves facing a conundrum when answering the question: What do I really want now that I'm a mom? The choices of pursuing career ambitions and creating a happy family life abound. How do we choose the right options for each of us? Whether we are starting our own journey into motherhood or reflecting back as a grandmother, MommyBest is a great read, a form of CliffsNotes, if you will, for parenting today.
MommyBest:13 Inspirational Lessons Derek and Dylan's Mom (and maybe yours) Never Learned in School addresses issues that families today face. MommyBest also provides the opportunity, using the Reader Reflection pages, for parents to share their responses to use as a keepsake or to further develop their own family memoir. In this way, MommyBest is truly a book for ALL moms -young and old-who will, or have experienced these once in a lifetime moments with their children and want to embrace and reflect upon their meaning. This combination of a quick lesson+ poignant memoir+ reflection page = a successful recipe for each mom to showcase both her personal as well as her MommyBest.
After decades of societal debate over the roles women should assume once they become mothers, there's still much controversy regarding which winning formula creates the "ultimate" family life. Many of the so-called "experts" still disagree, each citing statistics to support one choice over another--adding more rift to the divide which already exists among women themselves. MommyBest helps women realize there is no right or wrong answer in the choices we make, and that we all need to support each other in career and home decisions. Each of us has the power to create the life we want by listening to our internal G.P.S. Today, more than ever, women need to rally together in support of the difficult decisions women have to make on behalf of their families' well-being. Motherhood, at the very least, according to Donna Scrima-Black, should be recognized and receive the venerable status CEOs and other leaders at the helm enjoy, and they don't even do diapers. What else is more noble than giving of oneself to nurture another person's soul? Even Oprah says that motherhood is the "hardest job" that there is.
Yet, it's the most profound!
THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO FINALLY CREATE YOUR OWN MEMOIR FOR YOUR CHILDREN. DONNA'S READER REFLECTION PAGES HELP YOU START WRITING DOWN YOUR OWN THOUGHTS--WHETHER YOUR PREGNANT, HAVE BABIES, TODDLERS, TEENS OR ADULTS--IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO START JOTTING DOWN YOUR IDEAS TO SHARE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. WHAT GREATER LEGACY IS THERE THAN YOUR OWN FAMILY STORY TO PASS ON FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT?

About the Author

Like most moms, I’m not a Superstar—except in my own home!

“As a former Teacher, now mother and author, I’ve been on both sides of the classroom door.”

Before having children I was a successful Advertising Sales Representative for several years. Seeking to make the world a better place, longing for fulfillment in my daily work, I went back to school to earn a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. I taught fourth-grade for several years before starting my own family.

Our first son had a “rough journey” into this world. Luckily, the injury he sustained at birth, due to a medical mistake, healed. Grateful for his recovery, my husband and I agreed to focus on the magical moments of parenting, and, to that end, MommyBest was born! I invite all moms (and dads) to come along on this joyful-sometimes challenging-parenting journey, ultimately leading
to true self-discovery.

“Before having our first son, as a self-proclaimed career woman, I never imagined I would yearn to raise my own children. My carefully-laid plans of returning to my career six weeks after delivering our son went awry as I changed the course of my life’s journey to become a full-time mom, while also working part-time as an Educational Advocate. As an Advocate, I was able to use my educational background—along with my new mommy status—to help children with developmental disabilities get the services they are entitled to within the school district and better serve our community. I also donate a portion of all proceeds to charities/organizations which help children and families in need. In this way, I am doing what I ask of all able moms: to help other moms less fortunate reach their full potential.”
My greatest and most challenging endeavor is becoming Derek & Dylan's Mom! The journey is constant and ever changing--and one that is the most remarkable and rewarding adventure of learning to find the extraordinary in the ordinary facets of life.
