Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Readers who love Laurell K. Hamilton are sure to enjoy this strong, sexy paranormal introducing Mona Lisa and the people of the Monère. These non-humans are the exiled children of the moon, dependent on various warring Queens, whom they serve and mate with in exchange for prolonging their lives.

We first meet Lisa as a lonely ER nurse in Manhattan, a perpetual outsider with unusual healing powers. She is strangely drawn to Gryphon, the wounded patient in Bed 8; and her healing powers confirm to him that she is part Monère and the first Mixed Blood Queen. Their flight from the hospital kicks off Mona Lisa's introduction to her real life and a new world full of enemies. There is the race to find the antidote that is poisoning Grphyon, the discovery and rescue of a long-lost brother, and the saving of her other protector, Amber, through sexual healing. This promises to be a great series to follow. Ginger Curwen
Publishers Weekly
Once readers get past the silly premise of Sunny's sizzling debut-a humanoid race called the Mon re came to Earth from the moon 4,000 years ago-they'll find much to like in this intrigue-filled erotic paranormal. The "children of the moon" are ruled by "Queens," rare females whose ability to pull down the moon's rays allows them to heal rapidly and live 300 years. Gorgeous, shape-changing males protect, serve and have sex with the often ruthless Queens, who sometimes cruelly abuse them. After treating one of these males, Gryphon, at Manhattan's St. Vincent's Hospital one night, 21-year-old ER nurse Lisa discovers she's not only a part-human Mon re herself but also the first "Mixed Blood" Queen, Mona Lisa. Her human blood makes her impervious to sunlight and silver-the banes of the Mon re-and her latent powers pose a threat to the nastier Queens, who want to destroy her. Mona Lisa shares many traits with Laurell K. Hamilton's heroines, including having lots of hot sex for good causes, but mercifully without their kvetching and self-doubt. (Sept.) The True Mona Lisa

Well, I'm not ashamed to tell you that I love this story. Sunny runs the story lone book to book with only hours passing for the characters from one book to the next. FYI, you have to read the short stories as well to get the whole story. That being said, it's such an enthralling story, make sure you have plenty of time to read through all the books one after the other - you'll want to.

Now, on to what must be said; a warning . . . the characters are promiscuous and definitely sexually uninhibited. Whether or not their actions are a good surprise or a bad surprise depends on what you, the reader, brings to the table . . . or comfy armchair, since we're talking about books.

I wanted to like this book

Unfortunately there's only so much character and plot developing you can do in 243 pages. I thought the characters were one dimensional and and the story was rushed. It's one thing to read a book and think, "this is just bad." I finished this and was left wondering what could of been. Feeling not that it was bad, but that it could have been so much better.

the moon folk and you could bask in it... :)

I enjoyed this book, it was catchy from beginning to end... started with the lady not knowing who she was and then truly being awakened... I thought the multiple lovers were a plus, each was different and she was not having sex with the folks just for the heck of it... she was "healing" them... you know, like Marvin Gaye sung about... :)

    good but lacks focus

I would have rated this story better if it were more focused. The characters make up for the aimless, meandering plot. The story was entertaining and easy to read but I couldn't help the feeling that Mona Lisa was just a sticky ball rolling along aimlessly and gathering people as she went. The story and its protagonist seemed to lack a goal. There is little suspense in wondering about the characters' futures since its apparent the characters have no clue what they'll do next and are simply reacting to events.

Amazing story! Must read for paranormal lovers! Darkly erotic

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. I love finding a paranormal series that is refreshingly different. Mona Lisa is an ER Nurse in Manhattan that feels alone in the world. She meets a creature during one of her shifts that changes her life and helps her to understand why she has been different all of her life. She is not only another species, but a born Queen of that species (kinda like a queen bee) that is meant to rule. This story was absolutely amazing. Filled with action, heart break, and loyalty that is so intense. Mona Lisa is a strong female that grows into an amazing inspiring leader. She faces many challenges and protects those she cares for with intense fierceness and love.

I can't recommend this book enough to lovers of the paranormal. Or to anyone that appreciates a strong female, hot yummy shape shifters, and a wild ride. This book is a keeper and a re-reader.

    Rip off of BJT

This story is in every way a rip off of the Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop in every way shape and form. I will never give this author money for work another Author did.

If you want to read the real story Read that. This actually doesn't even deserve a ONE star rating. Truely....argh. Doesn't anyone write their own stuff anymore?

    Fantastic Read

I was a little resistant to reading this book at first, since I hadn't read anything similar before;however, I am glad that I did. Like most other reviews state, I simply could not put this book down. Sunny did an amazing job with this series-it's a wonder why she was ever a physician! If you are looking for a great story mixed with steamy scenes, this is definately the series for you!I have read Awakening and Blossoming, and currently reading Craving.None of them have been disappointing thus far!Go ahead, get it-you know you want to!

    Seductive & sexy

The author uses a lyrical way of writing that doesn't need alot of words to form a visual in your mind. Her way of describing the same scenes where never boring b/c of her style of writing. She worth reading over and over and any of her novellas are a hit with me.

This book is the first in the Monere series and starts by revealing the some of the characters mystical sides. Some of the characters are established and are very powerfully present. If your imagination is as active as mine your brain will dance happily with this book. So beautifully made. It ends with you wanting more and also prepares you for what's to come. (less)

    I'm awake

This is an easy read with charactors that don't slow down for a minute. I enjoyed the fast pace of the story and didn't need all the extra details some missed. This story is full of graphic violence and sex so if you are easily offended then avoid this book/series or if this is the kind of stuff you crave you've hit the jackpot!

    ify

The characters were great. They had life and a story and you could imagine them with your minds eye. What I didnt like was the fact that everyything jumped into motion way too fast from one topic to another.I think she would have been great with a little more detail. Like for instance how in the hell does Mona lisa know how to kick bad guy butt?? Who taught her to hold a knife?? Simple things about her should have been a little more detailed. Even though I find it a little flawed in that sense, the originality of her writing has me hooked on to read the next mone lisa books.
