Monarch Butterflies

Monarch Butterflies

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
This nonfiction book in the "Buddy Book" series begins with a simple explanation of the meaning of a life cycle. Photographs accompany brief facts concerning the butterfly, beginning with its first stage of life as an egg, and continuing until it becomes a butterfly. "Guess What?" pages add extra facts, such as how you can tell the difference between monarch and viceroy butterflies. Words printed in color throughout the book are listed and defined on an "Important Words" page at the end of the text. Most of the color photographs have a short caption. A "Can You Guess?" page contains two questions and answers. A website and index are included. For basic scientific information, this text is a good introduction for young children. It provides some essential vocabulary and concepts that would be useful for reference libraries and educational curriculum.
