Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
In this reprint of a 2004 title, Fox Business network show host Ramsey (The Total Money Makeover) promises answers to 100 financial questions he is frequently asked. For readers struggling with basic finance issues, including incurring and getting out of credit card debt, Ramsey provides solid advice (tops on his list: "say no to credit cards"). However, readers are cautioned on two points: Ramsey isn't shy about making numerous religious references; and, on page 139, he states that "you can invest $3000 per year per individual" in a Roth IRA retirement account. This is a serious error (as of 2010, individual limits are $5000) and makes this reviewer wonder what other inaccuracies exist in the text.

Dave Ramsey Challenges Everyone to Manage Money Wisely

In this age of economic downturn, it is very important to our lives and our future that we make the best decisions regarding our finances. Being a good steward of our resources is one of the Bible's most important lessons. Unfortunately, most of us don't know / don't understand much about taking good care of our finances.

The Money Answer Book - Quick Answers for Your Everyday Financial Questions by Dave Ramsey is a very informative book on finances. Dave Ramsey honestly and fearlessly gives us direct answer to money questions that we have everyday. He tackles current money management issues such as debt, mortgage, student loans, budgeting, saving, investments, teaching children about money and the like. The issues are current. His answers are direct without any flowery language.

As one who is truly challenged about the stewardship of resources, reading The Money Answer Book - Quick Answers for Your Everyday Financial Questions by Dave Ramsey is an eye-opener. Dave Ramsey knows how to challenge his audience to make wise decisions about their money. Although it is written with an American audience in mind, the issues are as real to us Filipinos as it is to Americans.

In this book, one of the most important things I've learned is how to give priorities to my financial needs. It has opened my eyes to a new way of planning a secure, financial future. The best thing about this is that it is very easy to read. In fact, it is not even a big book, it's as small as a pocketbook that I can easily slip into my bag. Despite it's size, it is packed with essential nuggets in the wise management of the resources that God gave us.

Fun, Witty, Blunt, Easy-to-Read Book on Finance

I have listened to Dave Ramsey's radio program before reading this book. This little book of 165 pages is packed with a lot of financial advice and tips, and formatted in an easy-to-read Q&A style.

Even for someone who stays in an Asian country, outside the U.S., this book offers a lot of financial principles that can be applied easily in any situation. Nevertheless, some specific topics addressed in the book, such as bankruptcy, divorce, estate planning, children college fund, etc, may not be applicable technically.

Essentially, Dave Ramsey adopts an aggressively conservative approach to finance management. His approach is an absolute, blanket-rule, NO to debt, particularly credit card debt - which in a sense is good, as the Bible says that "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender" Prov 22:7, NIV. Although this may seems unpractical at times, but we should not be a slave to credit card. Being credit card debt free must be one of our financial goals at all times. If you feel credit card service is indispensable, then you need to read Dave Ramsey's view on this issue.

I like the section on saving. According to Dave, saving is not a matter of having more money in your pocket before you can do so. Saving is a matter of emotional priority. You will only save money when it becomes an emotional priority. The secret to saving, therefore, is FOCUSED EMOTION. This is because advertisers everywhere will try to appeal to our emotions every day and tempt to take every dollar we have by blurring the distinction between WANTS and NEEDs.

In short, I enjoyed reading this book. It is written in a fun, witty and at times, rather blunt way - typical of Dave Ramsey's style - for those who have listened to his radio program before.

straightforward Q&A book on Personal Finance

Dave Ramsey shares his financial wisdom in The Money Answer Book. It is a question and answer book about financial topics, dealings, investments and stuffs that are normally faced by common people.

The book is easy to read and the question and answer format of writing makes the technical sounding terms sound less overwhelming. Many will appreciate his straightforward writing and views about personal finance.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants to get out of debt, needs some financial enlightenment or just wants a short easy to read book about personal finance.

    Awesome money answer book

I have heard great things about Dave Ramsey. They're all true.

This guy really knows his stuff. He is very good at financial advice, the kind that actually helps.

The Money Answer Book is just what the title proclaims: a book with answers to questions about money. It has 11 chapters that each cover a different topic in relation to money. Some include: The basics, Budgeting, relationships and money, insurance, real estate and mortgages, and more.

I love the way Dave talks bluntly. And I say "talks" because it really does feel like he is talking to you, not that you're reading it.

If you've heard about Dave Ramsey, it's possible that you've heard his idea for an envelope system. This was one of the concepts covered in the book (through the answering of a question or two) that I thought was interesting. Before, when I heard about the idea, I thought it was nuts. After reading the whole book (which isn't very long, it's great bathroom material because it has short segments of questions and answers) I realized that it's pretty smart. Instead of using a credit or debit card, which we are less attached to, you use cash. It feels a lot more painful to hand over a wad of cash then to swipe a card through a machine.

Many questions are geared towards folks who are struggling economically, but the book is also a great resource for "rich" people, and average people. Dave's main point: debt is normal, and we don't want to be normal! Get out of Debt!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has any money and wants to keep it, or who has no money and wants to get some.

    For Every Home Library

"The Money Answer Book" by Dave Ramsey is a short, easy-to-read book that provides simple, direct answers to the most common financial questions.

I liked this book's organized, direct approach to most people's basic questions regarding financial issues. I think this book has at least a little something for everyone, if not more. Ramsey approaches all the typical hang-ups people have with money with his no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is style.

I thought this book was great for several reasons. For one, it does not have to be read cover-to-cover. Even the busiest people can find the time to read the sections that address their greatest concerns or area of need. Also, each section is simply made of several pages of simple questions people often have, followed by Ramsey's no-nonsense, direct answer. The only draw-back to this book, if it can be called a draw-back, is that it does not contain any in-depth information. All the questions and answers are pretty basic. For someone needing or wanting more in-depth information, this book is probably not what you are looking for. However, that being said, I would recommend this book to virtually anyone. It will almost certainly provide some much-needed direction and insight. "The Money Answer Book" helps provide an overall sense of what financial well-being looks like, and what it takes to get there. Ramsey repeatedly emphasizes that virtually anyone can save money and work toward a financially secure future, whether they earn $25,000 or $250,000. This book will shed light on what, if any, areas you may want to focus on in your financial planning, and which areas to prioritize first.

    I Also Recommend:

    Money Basics

"Personal finance is 80% behavior and only 20% head knowledge" according to the quote on the back of the book. The Money Answer Book by Dave Ramsey helps you gain the 20% knowledge and helps you work on your 80% behavior so you can straighten out your finances. It's a small book, 170 pages, which is formatted in short, bite-sized question and answer sections, and very easy to read language. Taking care of money isn't hard, but you do have to be willing to make the effort.

It is a good beginner book for people who haven't focused on their finances, and need to start from the basics. He creates guiding principles that should work for most people, so that there is a framework upon which to base your financial actions. The rest of the chapters contain more details, even though there isn't in depth detail on any particular topic.

Since the book is for everyone, and not customized it to the individual, it does have some advice that might not be as sound for each person. For example, he says to pay off your smallest debt first. This way there is a win, and you can see progress. Personally, I don't need the small win, and paying off the highest interest rate loan would pay off all the debt faster. Some people are able to see the long term effects (and are geeky enough to create spreadsheets to see how many months they are shaving off the loan.) But paying off debt is a good thing, no matter the order, and depending on the size of your small loan, having one less debt to keep track of could help too, especially if it saves you the cost of another stamp and prevents the possibility of another late fee.

This would be a good book to gift to a newly married couple, or to a young person just starting out life on their own. Even if they don't read the whole book, they could get enough questions answered without having to admit to anyone that they don't know something.

I got the book for free from Thomas Nelson publishers in exchange for an unbiased review.

A Welcome Addition to any Financial Peace Library

Dave Ramsey has got our new little family off to a great start financially. Because of him, we have a PLAN. We have realistic {and slightly weird} goals and we know how to achieve them. I immediately fell in love with Dave's financial philosophies when C & I took Financial Peace University right after we got married. His personality and motivational nature is addicting. He breaks things into little bite sized pieces to make them easier to understand and undertake. This book is no different than watching the man speak to a live audience. His charismatic, encouraging, and logical voice is prevalent on every page and you feel energized and ready to DO something as soon as you put it down.

What I most appreciate about Dave's outlook, is his understanding of marriage and how money affects it. He is a huge advocate for balance. Most of all, his recommendations just make sense! If I can logically put together and understand what he's teaching, I can move forward in confidence.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a little bit more direction in their financial life.

    A MUST Read!!!

I am a BIG Dave Ramsey fan. Brian and I have read several of his other books and wholeheartedly agree with his financial advice.

We have used the debt snowball technique to pay off our debt and we have no credit cards!! Dave has literally changed the way we think about money.

This particular book gives answers to a lot of questions people have about finances. Even though I have read all of his other books, I sill learned a TON of information I did not know before. I was amazed at hw quickly I read it. I could not wait to read the whole thing.

I like the fact that it is small, so you could put it in your purse or car and read it while you wait somewhere.

I would definitely give this book as a gift for a wedding, high school graduate, Christmas, birthday, etc...

If you have never read any of Dave Ramsey's books you HAVE to get this book and read it` it will change your life!!

Answers to All Our Money Problems

We all seem to have money issues. Whether it's dealing with them as a college student, in one's marriage, or even as a parent, we all face times where we deal with money. We need to know how to handle it.

Thankfully, there are people like Dave Ramsey who provide excellent advice in the area of money. The author of this book takes things from previous books in a quick question/answer format that anyone can flip through. He discusses ideas such as "The Debt Snowball" as a way to pay off debt and get a better control over one's money system. He talks about money in relationships. He talks about automobiles and real estate.

What I like about this book is that it's a great purse book. It's fairly small enough that you can throw it in your purse or book bag to take with you. You can read through it at any convenience. I like how the pages are set up with the questions and answers. You don't have to read an entire novel to get what he's trying to say about different issues concerning money. Instead, it's a quick flip reference book with advice. This is a great book to get a person on track with their spending habits.

The Money Answer Book by Dave Ramsey

This book offers concise financial advice. Dave Ramsey uses a question and answer format in this book in an effort to address some of the questions he is most frequently asked. There are chapters on topics such as bankruptcy, investing, saving for college, retirement planning, and good ole budgeting. There are easily 100+ questions presented in the book, and each question is accompanied by an easy to read answer.

I liked this book. It was the first Dave Ramsey book I've had the chance to read, and because I enjoyed it, I'm sure it will not be my last. Some of the chapters were irrelevant to my specific financial situation (bankruptcy), other were a little over my head (investing and retirement), but others hit home (how to save for college and budgeting advice). Overall, I think this book is a good resource to add to your library. I definitely know I will hang on to it just in case I need to consult it further in the future.

Disclaimer: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. I was not asked to write a positive review, but simply, an honest one.

The Money Answer Book by Dave Ramsey

    The Money Answer Book
    By Dave Ramsey
This book is a handy little book of money questions and answers. I have read Dave Ramsey's other books, The Total Money Makeover and others, but this book takes specific questions and gives exact answers. The book is divided into sections, so you know where to go look for your question. Along the way, you just might learn something about a different topic.

I really like this book. I like the fact that I don't have to read a whole chapter to find an answer. It is right on the page. Ramsey does have advice interwoven throughout the book also. He states, "Fun can be bought with money, but happiness cannot." You need to have savings to catch the items you know you are going to have to pay for, such as another car, college, retirement, or you will always be broke. Questions dealing with credit cards, bankruptcy, insurance, and mortgages are answered in this book. I feel like this book would be best to go along with Dave Ramsey's other books, but as long as you know his general ideas, it is a great book to have. He goes into some detail about the emergency fund, debt snowball, and investing, but I feel his other books explain more about the processes.

Wanting to scream "I'm debt free"....

Of course after racking up a lot of debt through student loans and credit cards through my dating years with my spouse and later into our marriage years I realized that I could use any advice on how to get out of debt. Dave Ramsey is known for his many books about becoming debt free and achieving financial peace. However, this is not like most of his books where he lays out step by step answers on how to become debt free. This is a simple quick answer book for your everyday financial questions.

Ramsey breaks the questions into sections which include: The Basics; Debit, Credit, and Bankruptcy; Relationships & Money; Budgeting; Saving and Investing; 20-Somethings, College, and Student Loans; Stewardship; Insurance; Retirement and Estate Planning; Automobiles; Real Estate & Mortgages.

Using the simple Q&A form, Ramsey answers many questions average people have day to day, rather if you making 20,000 a year or $200,000 a year, you will find answers.

I found answers to questions about my student loans to how I can save for my children's higher education so they don't face the same mountain I did. I also read about ideas to help my children understand money such as comissions instead of an allowance. I will eventually scream "I"m debt free!"

    The Money Answer Book!

    WHAT A GREAT MONEY GUIDE!

I got this book only a couple of days ago, and am really excited to put his "baby steps," something that I guess is a really common approach for Ramsey, into practice.

He ENCOURAGINGLY addresses money in relation to college, relationships (before and after the "I Do"), mortgages, investments, etc., etc. in only 170 pages. It's a great "Answer Book," but even more it's a just a helpful read through to keep your head in the right mindset financially.

I agree with Dave when he encourages us to note the normalcy of society in relation to their usage of money -- and the believers calling to be WEIRD (or "alien").

This is a great book for people of any age (high school through whatever) and in any situation (dating, newly weds, divorced, filing bankruptcy, etc.).

A GREAT read and I look forward to the praxis.

Ramsey Is An Excellent Source For Financial Info!

I recently received a copy of Dave Ramsey's The Money Answer Book from BookSneeze for review. After procrastinating for a couple of days, I finally got around to reading it late last night.

Whether you are familiar with Dave Ramsey or not, the Money Answer Book gift book is definitely worth the easy read! This newest offering from Mr. Ramsey is essentially a "simplified" version of The Total Money Makeover, re-arranged as a Q and A with the following topics:

    - The Basics
    - Debt, Credit and Bankruptcy
    - Relationships & Money
    - Budgeting
    - Saving and Investing
    - College and Student Loans
    - Stewardship
    - Insurance
    - Retirement & Estate Planning
    - Automobiles
    - Real Estate and Mortgages

For those that are familiar with Dave and his previous books, this gift book can serve as a GREAT reference. Those readers who aren't familiar will attain some valuable information to get better control over their finances. While it doesn't go into great depth (each question/answer is approximately 1-1.5 pages long), it does make clear Dave's philosophies on the handling of finances and that we should be good stewards of all that God has blessed us with financially. The book also makes clear his dislike of credit cards, as you can tell from his "Top Two Ways To Be Money Smart":

    1. Say "NO" to credit cards
    2. Make a budget. Write it down. Give every dollar a name

I like the fact that all the info is condensed into one nicely-sized book; small enough to fit easily on the bookshelf, or in your desk drawer for easy access. The Money Answer Book is definitely recommended, and will make a great gift for dad, grad or newlywed. I plan on getting a couple to give as gifts!

    Enjoy.

    I Also Recommend:

    Love this book!

I've been reading the Money Answer Book by Dave Ramsey. I love this book! I generally enjoy anything that Dave Ramsey produces. What is different about this book is that it is a concise Q & A on Finances. It answers questions about debt, family budgeting and money management, stewardship, mortgages etc.

The book is only 169 pages. It is a little larger than pocket sized (a small book). However as small as this book is, it is powerfully helpful. Usually when I read a book I give it to someone else. Even if it is good I will give it away because I will not read it again. This book is one that I plan to keep.

If you have been looking for answers concerning how you can get a grip on your finances you can start with The Money Answer Book.

The Money Answer Book - great resource for anyone!

Love this book! I read it in about an hour. This is a great resource for anyone just starting out or who may need a refresher or crash course in how to handle money. Some of the questions and answers seem simple and they are but if no one has ever told you...how would you know? I will be obtaining copies of this book for both of my children. I recommend it highly!

    A Must Read For Everyone!

The Money Answer Book By Dave Ramsey is a question and answer format book that addresses the most frequently asked questions by Dave's listeners and viewers. The book covers Dave's "baby step" process to financial freedom as well as important info on how to wisely invest for college and retirement. In addition to this, it basically covers the general topics of all family finance issues.

This book is an amazing resource that I feel blessed to have. I have been inspired to get started on baby step number 1, and continue to follow the baby steps until I become "weird" and NOT like the norm of today's in debt society. This book is well written, well organized, and incredibly informative. If you are like me, you will speed through it just devouring every page, and then be ready to make some changes. I definitely recommend this book to every single person who is willing to read it.

    Great Answer to Money Questions

I just finished reading Dave Ramsey's newest book entitled The Money Answer Book. It is a great book to answer quick questions on how to handle your finances, get out of debt and live free from monetary burdens. The book is broken down to several sections that are easy to flip through for your questions.
I appreciate this book and will be utilizing many of its principles. It uses a Biblical understanding of money to help teach about changing your habits. We should not be in debt. We need to be good stewards of what God has given us. How are we going to do that if we are living from paycheck to paycheck? Are you going to be able to live life out like the early church if you are living beyond your means? How will you be able to help other people from your church if you have made poor financial decisions? The book helps delve into common problems like how to eliminate debt, how to make a budget, how to plan on saving for retirement. It is worth the read. He peppers the pages with wise quotes from the Bible and from notable people. The bottom line is that it is worth putting some of the plans into action.
