Money, Power & Respect

The LOX are some of the better rappers on the Bad Boy roster, more dexterous, clever, and hook-conscious than their mentor, Puff Daddy. That doesn't necessarily mean that their debut, Money, Power & Respect, is better than Puff's record, but it does mean that it's frequently exciting and invigorating. Like most late-'90s hip-hop records

Overview

The LOX are some of the better rappers on the Bad Boy roster, more dexterous, clever, and hook-conscious than their mentor, Puff Daddy. That doesn't necessarily mean that their debut, Money, Power & Respect, is better than Puff's record, but it does mean that it's frequently exciting and invigorating. Like most late-'90s hip-hop records, the album runs way too long and is bogged down by filler, but the very best moments equal anything that has been released by Bad Boy, and in many cases even surpasses it in terms of lyrical skills and energy.

''Free ther LOX''!! is what the people were yelling to Puff at the world famous Rocku Tournament in Uptown NY. The LOX wanted out of BadBoy to get out of the shiny suit image so they could be themselves. After Puffy would not let them out of their contract, they decided to let the street know what was going on. Well, eventually they were ''freed''. Unfortunately for them, that is - because this is their best album thus far and I believe it will their best ever. You see: styles, kiss & sheek got skills no doubt, however puff is the hit maker! If the LOX were still in Bad Boy they would have been the Run DMC of our era. Everyone would have wanted to form a 3 man group. Did anyone notice Black Rob sold more albums than the LOX first Ruff Ryder effort? By the way, I don't recall Black Rob, Biggie, G-Dep wearing shiny suits.
