Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
It is not until the end of the book that readers find out what an idiom is "an expression that doesn't mean what you might expect from the meaning of the individual words." The expressions that are illustrated in the book are reprised on the closing pages to explain what the expression means. For example "I'll give you a hand means I will help you." The books in this series "Milet Wordwise" presume that the reader has some understanding of language or the reader would be totally lost. Children, teachers, and parents will find this book amusing, especially the illustrations, and it is an easy way to explain idioms, but I would strongly recommend providing the definition of what an idiom is first.
