Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
As a kid we teased each other (I come from a large family) by copying actions and it was frequently to the taunt of "monkey see, monkey do." The phrase has a more positive tone in this early reader. The anthropomorphic monkeys are playing and having the same experiences as human children except for eating—for some reason they prefer eating bananas with their feet. It is light fare with positive messages concerning behavior. A Level 1 book in the "All Aboard Reading" series. 2000, Grosset & Dunlap, . Ages 3 to 6. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

As a kid we teased each other (I come from a large family) by copying actions and it was frequently to the taunt of "monkey see, monkey do." The phrase has a more positive tone in this early reader. The anthropomorphic monkeys are playing and having the same experiences as human children such as roller blading, enjoying the playground, playing baseball, enjoying a clown at a circus, crying when a scoop of ice cream falls out of its cone, playing hide and seek, dancing except for eating—for some reason they prefer eating bananas with their feet. It is light fare with positive messages concerning behavior. A Level 1 book in the "Penguin Young Readers" series. The opening page contains a note to parents and educators about the series and tips for making best use of the book. It has been identified as Guided reading "D" which is suited for emergent readers who need simple vocabulary, word repetition, picture clues and more. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
