Monkey Trouble

Overview

Little Monkey was told not to climb tall trees. Did he listen? Certainly not! He just made a face and climbed the tallest tree he could find. But that was a big mistake, for the wind snuck up behind him and blew Little Monkey right out of the tree and carried him across the sky, far, far away. Little Monkey is trouble all right, but he is lucky, too, and readers will be charmed by the cheeky little chimp's fortunes — and misfortunes — on his hilarious journey, back home.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
When Little Monkey disobeys orders, he lands in a heap of trouble. The artwork is the real draw here, as Rowe's subdued tones of ochre and moss green chronicle the fellow's stints in various animals' habitats before safely reaching home. Ages 5-8. (Sept.) Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
This is a delight, destined to become a classic. The artwork is distinctive and is filled with great humor and warmth. The moral of the story is crystal clear, and not soon to be forgotten. Little Monkey was big trouble, he never listened. When he was told not to do a particular thing, he immediately ran off and did it. When he was told not to climb very tall trees, he ran off and found the tallest tree he could find and climbed right up to the top. What he had not anticipated was that a very strong wind would carry him off and he would land in the crib of a brand new baby girl elephant. The hardships and indignities that Little Monkey must endure to make it home are hilarious. The cast of characters is imaginative and entertaining, but we never loose sight of the goal--Little Monkey wants to get home. There is a little surprise at the end that proves there is a little monkey in us all.
