Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Learn about different monkeys and their unique characteristics. Find out how a vervet eats. Read how monkeys protect their troops. There are color illustrations and photographs throughout the book. See the photographs showing the Emperor tamarin's magnificent whiskers or the colorful, bright face of the male mandrill. Young children may enjoy listening to the text read aloud as they study the pictures. Some children may need some guidance when they read the text because of the different layouts. The pictures are inter-mixed with the text in the spread. Besides the main text for the two-page chapters, there are captions that describe the pictures and insets that provide additional information. Some readers may need support with content vocabulary. The text features include a glossary and index. For those children who wish to learn more about monkeys, the publisher's web site has portals to additional web sites; the portals have brief descriptions about the web site. This book is part of the "Usborne Beginners" series which covers a range of informational texts. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
