Overview

From Lisi Harrison, the New York Times bestselling author of The Clique and Alphas, comes a new series with a fresh twist on high school, romance, and the "horrors" of trying to fit in.

The monster community has kept a low profile at the local high school, but when two new girls enroll, the town will never be the same. Created just fifteen days ago, Frankie Stein is psyched to trade her father's formaldehyde-smelling basement lab for parties and prom.

But with a student body totally freaked out by rumors of monsters stalking the halls, Frankie learns that high school can be rough for a chic freak like her. She thinks she finds a friend in fellow new student Melody Carver-but can a "normie" be trusted with her big secret?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Amanda Ledbetter
Melody Carver and Frankie Stein begin their sophomore year as new students at Merston High School in Salem, Oregon. Leaving the fast-paced, California lifestyle behind, Melody and her parents hope that the cleaner Oregon air will prove easier for Melody's asthmatic lungs to handle, though her older sister continually puts her down for being the cause of their family's relocation. For Frankie, high school is not all that is new. Her parents are descendants of the original Frankenstein's monster, and they have just created her in their own laboratory. Both Frankie and Melody find adjusting to their new school to be a struggle, complete with typical high school drama. At Merston High, however, monsters attend classes side-by-side with "normie" teenagers, while trying to maintain secrecy about their families and adding to high school angst. When the school opts for a monster-themed dance, Frankie sees it as an opportunity for her to step out of the shadows and to learn if her classmates can really accept her for who she is. Melody may not be a member of the monster community, but when she falls for one, she must put aside her own fears and take a stand for doing the right thing. While not all readers will be drawn to a book with movie monsters as the main characters, the message of the story is one of girl empowerment and a sense of pride in oneself, regardless of physical appearance or family background—a message to which many teenage girls can relate. Both protagonists must reconcile with their outer awkwardness and recognize that true beauty really does come from within. Reviewer: Amanda Ledbetter

I don't care what people have said. Monster High was one of the best things that Lisi Harrison has ever penned. It was fantastic, with believable, three-dimensional characters, and a fun, attention grabbing plotline. It's not hopping on the Twilight band wagon at all! Each character has, y'know, a personality, and the whole book is just so enjoyable. I loved it. Seriously, if you've liked anything else Lisi's written, you'll like Monster High.

This is the best book I have ever read. Every chapter makes you want to read more. Even if you don't like to read this book is amazing. The website is very different from the book though. The monster high series is amazing. I also reccomend the warrior serries and seekers series.

I have a feeling this might actually be pretty good. I haven't seen many books that are just about monsters. It's mostly vampires now. I actually have one of the dolls that this book is about and I've seen the mini shows on the site and it looks pretty cute. I can't wait to read this

It was a good enough book, but lets be honest, its just another teem drama book. All the girls ever talk or think about is boys and dating and drama. And I hated the ending. As if no matter what they do or say they can never be friends because of a stupid boy. (No offence, guys). This book was cheesy and the charactors were unrealistic. Everybody thought and acted the same way. I just wish that the author put more time into developing the charactors.

I expected a lot from this book, and I was impressed at the end of the book. A satisfying mix of drama, humor, and just a hint of romance. Oh, and an enormous amount of pop-culture references (even Twilight and Justin Bieber) which can be annoying after a few chapters. I see huge potential in this book: It's already a web-series, and it was a special on Nickelodeon. Maybe a regular TV series or a movie? If you're looking for the perfect "just for fun" read, read this. It's "voltage."

This book is guided towards teens. There are so many characters that it switches from story to story which makes it confusing. Overall a good teen romantic/horror book.

This was an awesome book. I read it in two days because I could never put it down! And Bad, you can't say the book was bad if you've never even read it! I highly recommend Lisi Harrison's books- she's one of my favorite authors-I've read all her books and I've loved every one of them! Don't bash on the book if you haven't even read it because its nothing like the TV show and don't take advice from your little cousin!
