"One of the best books short of the famous Ann Rule works." —True Crime Book Reviews

On a snowy winter evening in 1982, twenty-one-year-old Mary Brown accepted a ride from a handsome stranger in the resort town of Breckenridge, Colorado. The trip ended with her brutally beaten and raped. Mary survived, but her predator's violence had only just begun.

After ten years in prison, Tom Luther was released a far more vicious criminal. Soon, from the Rockies to West Virginia, like Ted Bundy, Luther enticed a chain of women into his murderous trap. In this gripping new edition of a true crime masterpiece, acclaimed author Steve Jackson recounts the intriguing pursuit and long awaited conviction of a charismatic, monstrous psychopath—one who remains a suspect in three other crimes, and has never given up hope of escape.

"Steve Jackson is a born storyteller. He makes you sweat. . .and turn the page." —Ron Franscell, author of The Darkest Night

Reviewed by Samantha Rivera for Readers' Favorite Thomas Luther

Reviewed by Samantha Rivera for Readers' Favorite

Thomas Luther is the boogeyman under your bed and the monster in your closet, all rolled into one. He is a parent’s worst nightmare for their child and a woman’s worst nightmare for a date. He is pure evil and what is possibly worse is that he is brutal without provocation and he is unrepentant about it. In his mind’s eye, the only true victim is himself. Throughout Monster a colorful picture is painted of Luther and how he came to torment and terrify several states worth of women, cops, and families.

This story is one that will give you the chills and make you look twice in corners. It will definitely make you think twice before smiling back at the friendly young man across the room and you’ll never think about hitchhiking the same way again. I couldn’t seem to put this book down because every time I tried I was drawn back to it again and again until it was done. The story of Thomas Luther and his victims is one that haunted family, friends, and police officers for years before it finally came to an end. This is the story of exactly how that happened. This is the story of how Thomas Luther tormented the people he came into contact with for at least two decades and possibly even more as he made his way throughout the country.

Perhaps we’ll never know the full truth of what happened between Luther and the only woman he was convicted of killing but this book will help you shed some light on the case.

    Excellent detail of events

I read alot of true crime books but this is the first one in a long time that captivated my attention and didn't get long winded in describing facts.

    Thrilling, a must read!

Monster had me from the first page. I just could not put it down. The idea that these kinds of people are wandering our neighborhoods is alarming. I take much more caution whenever I'm out and about.

When reading this book I really felt sorry for that college student but you have to understand that you can't trust everyone or in this case anyone to give you a ride home and you don't know them because most likely something could or will happen to you!!!!

    Okay book.

I read a lot of true crime books but this is not one that I would recommend. It was way too long and drawn out. Finished it but thought I would never get through it. It picks up somewhat in the end with the story about the jury.
