Overview

Set against the magnificent background of Montana comes the saga of the Maxwells—one of the state's most influential ranching families.

Dr. Jolie Maxwell—oldest of the Maxwell sisters—doesn't expect a royal welcome from her family when she finally comes home. But her brother's in serious trouble with the law, and her father's health is failing. They need Jolie.

The townsfolk also need Jolie—they haven't had a local doctor in years. However, they're not happy about having another Maxwell in their midst. In fact, one of them will do anything to drive her away.

Coolness from her family, hostility from the townspeople and the very real threat of danger make Jolie appreciate the friendship of her new neighbor, Matt Dawson—and his two young children. Although, when it comes to Matt, friendship is only part of what Jolie wants.

    A Rich, Complex, Well-Woven Story

It's not exactly what Dr. Jolie Maxwell had in mind. When she returns home to the small town in Montana, she knows her family - not exactly the warm, Walton-type - aren't going to be overly welcoming. But the town isn't as happy as she thought they would be about having a doctor availible once more. There's the friend who was injured when her brother caused an accident, the girlfriend of his who's in trouble in more ways than one, and her stubborn father, who won't follow medical orders to treat his congestive heart failure. Then there's the threats against her. Jolie has her hands full. Now toss into the mixture one ancient sheep, a protective llama, a handsome neighbor and his two children - one of whom is full of curiosity, and the other is afraid she's dying - just like her mom did. Matt Dawson is looking for a good place to raise his children. Romance is the farthest thing from his mind. But Jolie is winning his heart - and his kids'. The plot layers in this book are astounding, and the characters are ones you can easily root for. Roxanne Rustard weaves a complex tale of family love and loyalty with a wonderful romance.
