About the Author

Burt Levy started writing about motorsports as a way to get his racing fix for free. An established and successful amateur and low-rung professional racer, Burt discovered he could "write" his way into fabulous classic racing cars that he could never dream of affording. He began working on his first racing novel "sitting around the pool with a hellacious rum hangover" during the 1986 Bahamas Vintage Grand Prix. "I'd always hated all the fiction I'd ever read or seen on the screen about racing, and I thought I knew that world and could maybe do it better. Capture the gallows humor, long tows and even longer garage nights as well as the on-track drama, color and excitement."
Burt and wife Carol had to take out a 2nd mortgage and publish "The Last Open Road" themselves after the manuscript was turned down "by damn near every fiction publisher in New York." Thanks to "potty posters" taped up over the urinals at tracks where Burt was racing and tremendous word-of-mouth support, it went on to become a genuine cult classic on the motorsports and collector-car scenes. It also earned great reviews, is used in schools and is on the recommended reading lists at many libraries. It's also evolved into a five- (soon to be six-) novel series, with "Montezuma's Ferrari" as the second volume.
