Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
For people who would rather show than tell, there's Mood Swings: Show'em How You're Feeling. A spiral-bound, sturdy cardboard case folds into a billboard; readers flip through the range of feelings and facial expressions, drawn by Jim Borgman, to find the one that fits their mood. A red background for "I'm feeling angry" depicts a face contorted into a scowl; other options are "guilty," "confused," "depressed," "happy" and "exhausted," plus many more. Each page comes in duplicate, so the billboard either warns people off or invites them in from either direction. (Jan.) Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.

    Perfect for showing without telling

It looks cute and is listed as an item for young readers, but it works equally effectively for adolescents and adults. It provides an opener or a warning especially for those who have a hard time expressing themselves or have difficulty identifying how they feel. Too bad some people think because it's cartoonish, it's childish. The faces downplay the seriousness and make it less intimidating and embarrassing for some people to openly express their feelings.
