Rodney StevensMike Sigalas covers the state's history, people, shops, events, and accommodations. He delves into locations as various as the Blue Ridge and Hell Hole Swamp (2000 acres of "wilderness...[and] swamp critters" in the Francis Marion National Forest). And he gives fine advice on everything from sharks ("Lose the flashy jewelry. Sharks can't see well in South Carolina's murky waters, but they'll see the glitter from that...belly ring of yours") to pronunciation (Sherman is "SAY-tun"). We South Carolinians, it turns out, are "a diverse and gracious people" who are "taught to say 'please' and 'thank you,'" whether we feel like it or not. Thank you, Mike. It's a terrific book--and that's gospel.
