What happens when brothers fall in love with the same woman? One is the father to her child; the other her husband. One went off to war and left his brother to pick up the broken pieces. Civil War has crumbled a nation, and the Dakota Sioux are on the warpath in Minnesota. Twins separated at birth, Lauren and Sage McCain, are reunited twenty years later by fate and ensnared amid the flames of destiny and love.

"Her characters are well-developed, yet the supporting characters are kept where they belong, in the background as they round out the authentic feel of the times just prior to the Civil War when Native Americans were being uprooted to make way for “civilization.” Juggling several main threads that could very easily have turned into a twisted knot at the end, Ms. Diablo brings it all home with her usual forthright style and fashions a neat bow around your heart!" 4.5 Stars

"This is a wonderfully wriiten story. It has a vast collection of characters that everyone can relate with, from the ones who like love stories to people who prefer the war-time stories. Its just another fine example of how Keta's stories can cover many generations of readers." Amazon Reader, 5 Stars

"There is great loss, tragedy, love, passion, and warmth with some cheerful moments. I wept at times and I absolutely loved Holding On To Heaven! I clung to every word and found it highly erotic where it needed to be, and extremely tasteful, written in a southern voice, with a matching charm. The characters seemed very true to that time period being the 1800's. The erotic scenes are extremely hot and explicit love scenes. Keta Diablo filled the pages in between those erotic pleasures with such thrilling detail that I did not hunger for more. My mind was filled with the passion of the story itself, and that passion was driven from the depths of the characters. Although it is fiction, the time period is depicted true and well, making the fantasy seemingly possible. An absolutely wonderful erotic historical romance.

This has to be part one because the ending is wide open. In my opinion it ends perfectly though and leaves me now searching and waiting with desperation to read on." - Five Stars

Editorial Reviews

Papercut Reviews - Dolly M
"Keta Diablo really knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what will befall the main characters. Lovers of historical fiction will love this one! I’m a big fan of the Civil War era and it’s nice to see this as the backdrop for this novel. I don’t think it’s written about as much as it should be in the historical romance world. Holding on to Heaven has it all -- adventure, desire, and the indelible spirit of human hope and perseverance.

    Romantic Historical Fiction with Heart

Separated by fate at birth, twin sisters are unaware the other exists. Their lives are worlds apart, but they each find love, but only one has found her dream while the other struggles with more than one mistake she has made. Will the fate that separated them bring them back together?
Lauren has had a good life, but when war threatens, she is sent to the relative safety of her aunt and uncle’s farm in the North. Headstrong and daring, Lauren has met her match and lost more than her heart to a man who goes off to war without divulging his feelings. Alone, and pregnant, it is this man’s brother who steps up and offers marriage, in name only to protect her honor. How many men could be so giving while getting so little in return?

Sage was taken at birth and raised in an entirely different world, but she is content and has found the man of dreams, an honorable man who is her rock in the difficult, yet simple life she is living. But slowly she finds that the world she knows may not be the world she came from. Does she have another family out there? One who grieves her loss?

Finally their worlds collide, but not until the worlds they have known have been shattered. Will they find a way to heal each other and bring their worlds together?

With Holding on to Heaven, Keta Diablo is able to take her readers effortlessly back in time with her vivid descriptions and high octane world building. Ms. Diablo makes each scene come alive with tension, passion and a grit that feels right! This is truly historical romance with an edge that pokes hard at your heart. Her characters are well-developed, yet the supporting characters are kept where they belong, in the background as they round out the authentic feel of the times just prior to the Civil War when Native Americans were being uprooted to make way for “civilization.” Juggling several main threads that could very easily have turned into a twisted knot at the end, Ms. Diablo brings it all home with her usual forthright style and fashions a neat bow around your heart! 4.5 Stars
