Overview

Shiloh Trudell thought she was getting used to the strange events in Fallen Oaks, until the full moon brings another surge of supernatural threats to her coastal town. Ferocious wolves, deadly necromancers, and fallen angels have descended upon the neighborhood, so Shiloh needs to gain control of her magical abilities--and her impetuous heart--fast!

As if life wasn't complicated enough, enter sexy, brooding Trent Donovan--local bad boy, and the type of guy your mother warned you about. While Trent tries to help Shiloh prepare for a supernatural battle, their fiery spark intensifies into a slow burn. Romance with an unlimited potential allows them to experience both the thrill of love and the chill of fear for the object of their affection.

Then Shiloh discovers a dark family secret that threatens to shatter her world. The only thing that keeps her going is her thirst for revenge and the protective, rebellious boy she's falling head over heels for.

When her classmates are attacked by a mysterious creature and her father is murdered, Shiloh vows vengeance. Except that's not all Shiloh has to worry about. She's also struggling not to become the very thing she fights: evil.

But with demon blood inside her--anything can happen...

Editorial Reviews

blog - Literary Explorations
"...There was such a great mystery all throughout the book and it kept me guessing until the very end. Some new characters were introduced as well so I'm looking forward to learning more about them in the future. This series just keeps getting better with each book and I love that Shiloh is such a strong character."
blog - Sated Fairy Reviews
"Wow! Now things are really getting exciting (and maybe a little terrifying) around Whispering Pines! I liked this book even better than the first one! Now that Shiloh has discovered her roots and began fighting against evil, the whole town seems to be teeming with dangerous and intriguing new creatures. I admit, I was a little worried after that ending in Beautifully Broken, but there is still plenty of adventure and romance for Shiloh."

"Honestly, I just love Shiloh. A great character. Strong and weak in all the right places. What she has to deal with is a lot, and she does so with the grace of a strong and big-hearted teen with special gifts. The town, her friends, her enemies, are all portrayed well by Ms. Soule, written well, with a nice balance of description and action to keep a reader turning the pages. I look forward to more in this series."

May contain spoilers from previous book* I received a copy from the author. Shiloh Ravenwolf’s problems are far from over, but she’s the protector of Whispering Pines, a town that’s a hotspot for paranormal activity, and should expect them. She saves James McMillian, a guy on the varsity football team, when he stumbles into Luna Pizza, and appears to have been attacked. Shiloh’s scar tingles and burns, which lets her know that whatever happened definitely involves something supernatural. When she starts to head to the Ravenhearst Manor with her best friend, Ariana, a big beast is in the road and they barely miss it. The attacks increase, but seem to only target the football team. The local policeman claim that its rabid dogs, but her mentor Evans think it’s lycans that are attacking the team. When Shiloh becomes witness to an attack, she became high up on the supernatural hit list. With all of these going on, Trent starts to become closer to Shiloh. When he becomes angry, his eyes turn black and this frightens Shiloh. She has been tainted with demon’s blood, and she thinks Trent has too. Shiloh has many things to worry about, and has a guy with piercing eyes following her at odd times. She’ll have to team with the most unlikely people to help the town that she is prophesized to help Lives will be lost for this cause. Will Shiloh solve the mystery behind all the attacks before it’s too late? I liked this one more than the first book. I love all of the different paranormal creatures that are brought into this book, which makes this series have a slight Buffy-esque vibe to it. I had suspicions of what was happening. I was right on some things but not everything. I’m definitely interested to see what the new guys will play in the next book. I definitely enjoyed Trent a lot more in this book than the others. I wished that Jillian, Shiloh’s mom, was more in the book. I don’t like her, but I want there to be some kind of closure with Shiloh even if it’s not good. There are so many things I’m still wondering about, but I love that the main aspects of the book are resolved before the next book starts. The ending isn’t too much of a cliffhanger, but I’m definitely intrigued to find out what happens next.
