Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
K-Gr 2—Introducing symbiosis in nature, these volumes pair full-page color photos with two or three sentences of information each on facing pages. The large-type texts run to only 175–190 words per volume, and are similar but not identical to each other in wording and structure. The easy-to-understand examples are well selected to show a range of relationships in a variety of environments, and children will come away with some exposure to the concepts of "parasite" and "predator" as well.
Children's Literature - Laura J. Brown
Morey Eels and Cleaner Shrimp Work Together is a title in the "Pebble Plus Animals Working Together" series. In this book the symbiosis or partnership of the moray eel and cleaner shrimp is described. The eels and shrimp have a very special partnership. The shrimp clean the eel's teeth. They do this because food gets caught in between the eel's teeth and if it is not removed it can harm the eel in the future. The shrimp also eat parasites that stick to the eel's skin and gills. The pictures would be greatly enhanced if text features or captions were included to make it easier for young readers to comprehend what the photographs include. A glossary is included. The author does included recommendations for further reading, and a list of safe Internet sites where more information can be found. An index is also included which will be helpful to readers. Reviewer: Laura J. Brown
