Children's Literature - Heather Christensen
Like its predecessor, Crafty Activities, this book is a compilation of six titles in the "Step-by-Step" series published by Search Press. The craft techniques taught in this book are collage, clay modeling, beadwork, decorative painting, papermaking and paper folding. A short table of contents lists these different sections, but without an index readers will have a difficult time finding specific activities. The author of each section wrote a short introduction that describes a little of the technique's history as well as information about the author's choice of projects. Each project is organized on a two-page spread, with numbered steps illustrated with color photographs and a materials list clearly displayed. Suggestions for variations to the project are also listed. Techniques that are used for several projects are included at the beginning of each section, while patterns are located at the end. Once again, the lack of both a detailed table of contents and index may make navigation a little tricky. Overall, young craft enthusiasts will find plenty of projects to keep them entertained for some time. Reviewer: Heather Christensen
