He wants to win. She wants to win him back.
Keyboardist Kyle Cross may look like a bad boy with his tattoos and piercings, but he’s really the good guy who’s always stuck fixing his band’s problems and never gets the girl. His band is competing in a Battle of the Bands, but when their bassist doesn't show, Kyle must track her down with the help of the person he least expects: his ex-girlfriend Alexis Monroe.
Kyle hasn’t seen Alexis since she dumped him in high school, and she’s dropped her preppy image for fiery red hair and a bold new attitude to match. With only hours before his band goes on stage, Kyle has to be a little bad if he wants to win both the Battle and the girl he's never gotten over. But when their old problems resurface, the good guy might just get his heart broken all over again.

What a great way to start this series. Kyle's story is heartwarming & reminds you that not every rocker is a bad boy & to not judge based on looks. I really enjoyed this prequal & can't wait to read the rest of the series!
I was a huge fan of Elizabeth Briggs's MORE THAN MUSIC, so I was thrilled when I saw she would be releasing a prequel novella! This novella takes place before the events of MORE THAN MUSIC, and can be read as a standalone, can be read before MTM, or can be read after. It totally stands alone as its own awesome story, but it also really enhances the story and characters of MTM. MORE THAN EXES is told from Kyle's POV and details his reunion with his ex-gf Alexis. Just like MTM, this novella is fun, funny, sweet, and HOT HOT HOT. And just like MTM, this is a NA book that is not full of damaged characters with tragic pasts trying to fix each other. These are realistic characters who like awesome music having fun and just being awesome. I loved this novella just as much as I loved MORE THAN MUSIC! I was fun hearing from Kyle's POV, it was great to get more insight into the inner workings of Villain Complex, and I smiled, laughed, and swooned. A really fantastic NA read!
My first book by this author - and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad to see there are more books about the rest of the band members. But this story - about Kyle and Alexis - is really great. Short and sweet - there is a lot packed into a quick read. I know the other stories by this author are going to deliver more fun reading.

"Foxkit!" <p>Foxkit awoke to a concerned Ashkit leaning over her. She sighed. <br>"What? Can't a cat get some sleep once in a while?" Foxkit forced herself to get up from her cozy nest. It wasn't even dawn yet. <br>"Foxkit, we're being attacked by badgers," Ashkit mewed in worry, leading Foxkit away from the entrance. She saw groups of elders and young apprentices huddled in the nursery. She felt herself being dragged to the back of the nursery. <p>"AHH! BADGER- Whiterose?" the kit mewed in surprise to see the medicine cat in the den. <br>"I'm not a badger, you stupid furball," Whiterose huffed as she applied herbs to a light gray she's bleeding leg. <br>"That's Rosewater, the deputy. I feel like the whole Clan is having to shelter in here," Ashkit mewed, stating the obvious. <br>"Cool. I'm going to go and hang out with Moonkit," Foxkit meowed, not listening to Ashkit. <p>Moonkit was a blue-gray tabby she with black flecks on her tail and ears. She had clear blue eyes that shone with the stars. Foxkit found her fascinating in an odd way. She padded across the den to where Moonkit was sitting. <p>"Hey, Moonkit!" she meowed. <br>"Hi, Foxkit..." She looked up at Foxkit, her eyes clouding with worry. <br>"Are you worried about those smelly badgers? Larkstar can beat 'em, he's the strongest cat in the Clan!" She gave her a playful nudge. <br>"I guess so..." Moonkit nudged her back. Foxkit heard yowling come from outside the den. <br>"And don't come back!" Rosewater yowled as the badgers fled from the camp. She turned to Foxkit, Ashkit, and Moonkit. <br>"You can come out now," Rosewater meowed. <p>Foxkit scrambled out from the cool, grassy den and was hit by a wave of scorching heat. Many of the trees has fallen, and the sun beat down at her. Blood trickled through small crevices in the ground, and the smell of death was everywhere. She could see dead cats everywhere, abd she shuddered as she looked for her parents. She saw Sootfur limping towards her, ignoring a gash on his shoulder. <br>"Where's Sundapple?" Foxkit mewed hopefully. <br>"She's with StarClan now," he choked out. "I'm so sorry, Foxkit." <p>To Be Continued <br>Author's note: I added Rosewater! B) <br>~E &spades
