Overview

Geoffrey Kane, Earl of Kanewood refuses to feel anything more than passion. Four years ago, his fiancée betrayed him and he has no desire to experience that again so when he meets the beautiful Rebecca Kingsley, it's passion at first sight. And only passion.
Rebecca has led a very quiet life working for her father at a small country inn. When she meets Geoffrey she falls in love with him right away. But she's only the daughter of a baronet and men like Geoffrey never marry country girls like her. Do they?
When Rebecca's father tries to marry her off to a wealthy old man, Geoffrey intervenes and marries her himself. He wants her very much but he couldn't possibly love her. Love is for fools. At least that's what he tells himself. But a sinister enemy soon threatens to destroy all that Geoffrey holds dear, forcing him to face the truth. His marriage depends on it . . . And maybe even Rebecca's very life.

A wonderful and touching story... the female lead was strong and sensitive...instead of the crying baby I see in so many other romances. I liked the fact that there wasn't hugh misunderstandings and that the characters talked to one another about their problems. Wonderful read!

I enjoyed this book. I would read other books by this author after reading this for the first time.

The plot was decent, but some of the dialogue was stiff, and not true to the period. A good editor can make this book better than a three; aside from the typos and gramatical mistakes, there was too much telling and not enough showing.

Could not get past the second chapter of this book.  The writing was immature,  the story unbelievable from the beginning.

I felt like this book dragged on. I stopped halfway through, which I never do. I ended up finishing it a few months later and did enjoy the ending.

The first hundred pages are a bit rushed and quite difficult to muddle through; leaving a feeling of distaste for the author's seeming lack of skill. However, she more than compensates in the following 400 pages; allowing one to grow rather fond of her characters and the mystery they are embroiled in. The plot is a tad bit predictable, but it does not take away from the charm or readers ability to be enthralled with the story. Get through the first quarter and you're golden.

As a huge fan of historical fiction/romance, I thought I knew what to expect from an author that I had not read before...I was wrong! I was delightfully surprised. The story enthralled me from beginning to end.

It was good enough to finish. And I liked the characters. And it was a series book not a serial. A series book is a whole story with ties to other books and serials are books that arent finished and you waste your time reading it only to have to purchase another so-called book to find out the ending. I hate that!!!!!!!!! SQ

Very stilted writing. The characters were irritatingly naive and flat, plot points were dropped. I barely forced myself to finnish this imature book. Would NOT recommend this book even if it was free.

Strong male snd female charaters. I fell in love with the writing.

Quit reading about 100 pages in. The characters seemed rather flat and there was nothing that drew me in to the story. The book is well edited, with no obvious grammar or spelling errors, so that's a plus, but it just didn't hold my interest.
