Kind of a teaser story. Not much of plot. A lot of rambling through and maybe we'll get "together" this time. And the ending - not very satisfying. Plain and simple, too much game playing. I did like Jake, his devotion and his POV. I rate the book as so-so.

I loved Jake. I loved his friends. I loved his family. I loved how he was with Kayla. But his overreacting drove me up the wall! And Kayla - I get it she's traumatized but geesh you'd think she would know to embrace life and how precious it is. I didn't understand how disconnected the parents are - 18 does not make someone an adult. Overall I think this book had something special to it. A quality you don't often see in writers. And that's the ability to subtly show the reader development and life lessons about cherishing what you have and the value of true friendships. Was this review helpful? I absolutely adored this story! Through a series of tragic events Mikayla and Jake are brought together. It doesn't take long for the two to realize they have a strong connection. But will outside forces keep them apart. I got this book from a giveaway. And I couldn't put it down. I thought Jake and Kayla were such great characters. Can't wait for Logan's story to come out.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

It was good, but I am not sure it was as mind blowing as the other reviews said. Tragic..yes. A great leading man...for sure! Great supporting characters (jakes friends)! It may have worked better for me if they were a few years into college instead of just getting out of high school. I ended up skimming through some of it closer to the end with all the back and forth jealousy and silent treatments or failure to communicate well. That being said, I will look for Logan's story and read it as well!!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I loved, loved, loved this book. I read about 20 to 30 books a month and I have to say this is one of THE BEST stories I have ever read. It made me feel such a plethora of emotions. At first I was angry and then I was bawling, sobbing,.... literally almost hyperventilating crying. My heart was breaking. Then there's this overwhelming heartwarming love. And then I laughed so hard I was crying again. LOL. The characters in this story feel so real. As though they could be my neighbors. Mikayla is amazing. She sweet, kind, caring, loving, forgiving, and incredibley strong. Jake is the most gorgeous, sweetest, beautiful, kindest, giving, loving man ever. And so strong. His parents and Ju-ju are great. Then there's Lucy & Cam, Heidi & Dylan, and Logan. All of Jake's friends. They are a screamin hoot! So hilarious! Had me laughing so hard. The sexual chemistry between Mikayla and Jake is so hot. The suspence in this story is so intence at times that I had to take deep breaths to calm down. And I LOVED IT ALL SO MUCH. Then the ending. Megan. I would never have let her walk away free. This is an amazing book. I HIGHLY revommend this book to everyone. The author did such an amazing job writing this I cannot wait to read more. BRAVOWas this review helpful? 5 amazing stars
This book was so much more than what I was expecting and I loved it. It is safe to say that Jake Andrews deserves to be on the best book boyfriends list. He was amazing and so caring to Mikayla, a young girl who literally has had to live through one of the most horrible days one can have. Even though some of the book may be a tad unrealistic, his parents, I loved it. Jake's friends were also amazing, and OMG...Logan's POV in the epilogue... I so cannot wait for his story.
Anyhow, I went through every emotion reading this book. My heart broke, I laughed my head off (Lucy is an awesome character), and I got angry. Oh, and I forgot to mention that McLean can really write characters with awesome sexual chemistry. So there you have it, and what more could your want from a book. A must read book in my opinion.

I love when a book takes me by surprise and More Than This certainly did that. Makayla Jones is at the end of her senior year of high school and things are going pretty great. She has been with her hunky boyfriend James for four years, she's got her best friend Megan by her side and they are all going to UNC together in the fall. But in just one night, everything she knows shatters.
Jake Andrews is a pretty big deal. Also a senior, he has a full baseball scholarship to UNC and there is no doubt he will go pro one day. When he sees the beautiful broken girl standing in front of him, he can't help but reach out to her and help take away some of the pain. When the night of betrayal also becomes a night of tragedy, he stands by her, holds her and does everything he can to get through the most difficult time in her life. But when a brand new friendship starts to become more, how will they know that what they feel is real and not just because of what they experienced together. After everything Makayla has been through, will she be able to love again? Or will she always be a broken little girl?
More Than This completely sucked me in from the very beginning. I barely even took a break until I was done. The range of emotions I felt while reading this book was just... wow. First you are hit with anger and hurt for the betrayal Makayla suffers. I saw it coming just before it happened and I wanted to hurt someone.
Then she meets Jake and his friends and you are happy for her because she found good people to hang with the rest of the night. She has found real friends with Jake, Logan, Cam, Lucy, Dylan and Heidi. Real friends who seem to really care, even though they just met, and help her turn this crap night into something fun. Jake is really sweet and attentive (and hot) and it is impossible not to fall for him. Just as things were going good, Kayla's world ends and her heart is ripped from her chest and you feel every ounce of her pain. I have to say, I was not expecting it at all.
Jake and his family go way above and beyond for Kayla in helping her grieve, helping her love and move on. As they spend more time together, Jake isn't shy about letting how he really feels for her show. But Kayla has to fix the broken in her first before she can give all of herself to him.
I love a book that makes me really feel, even when some of what I feel is pain and anguish. Because along with that pain, I got to watch Makayla grow and overcome to find her happily ever after. Plus along with the hard stuff, there is a lot of good stuff. Happiness and humor and so much love. I cannot wait for book 2, More Than Her, which is Logan's story. The brief intro we get of him in the epilogue had my eyes widening in shock and I just know it is going to be another great read.

Before I make my unending praise and worship of this book, I want to confess something to Jay McLean and to all Netizens. I have heard a lot of buzz about ‘More Than This’ but shrugged them all off thinking that it’s one of those predictable endings with cliffhangers, so I ignored it. Not until I was approach personally and read the reviews that I gave it a chance. A risky one since I’m not a huge fan of cliffhangers. And you know what, it was WORTH it! Read it for 5 hours! And after three days, I’m still hang-up from Jake Andrews. I don’t know how I can move on.
‘More Than This’ started with Mikayla’s senior prom night going from bad to good to tragic. Everything happened all at once! Prom should be unforgettable and a happy moment, but it was different for Mikayla. Everything bad and unthinkable took place on this suppose-to-be special day in her young adult life. For Jake, knowing Mikayla is like finding a lost puppy that needs protecting and comfort. The more he cares for her, the deeper he falls, unknowingly.
There were a lot of emotions from both characters. I really feel bad for Mikayla’s loss, and I’m furious at the author for being so cruel! But then again, tragedy in whatever occurrence happens to everybody and it’s just up to that individual how to cope with said loss. One thing I learned from this book though, there’s always a light at the end of a tunnel, and Mikayla found that light in the form of Jake Andrews. You’ll love the people in Jake’s life; his family is supportive and treats Mikayla as their own, and his friends are a mischievous bunch but fun to hang out especially Lucy. She’s one heck of a book nerd but transforms to a different person when alcohol consumes her. Funny as hell!
This book contains mild-sensual scenes (and when I say mild that involves heavy foreplay and a lot of cold showers for Jake Andrews), swoon-worthy scenes, and some foul words. Narrated in Mikayla and Jake’s POV with HEA! (Whoop! Whoop!) The ending was a shocker for me. I didn’t see that one coming! But it was a good ending to a sad part of Mikayla’s life.
Overall, I can’t seem to find any bad things about this book. I’m actually looking forward to ‘More Than Her’ (More, #2) which is about Logan’s story! You’ll hate Logan for being such a player but behind that facade is a guy who’s willing to give his heart to the right girl. I SERIOUSLY CAN’T WAIT!!!

Mikayla is faced with the worst night of her life but also with the origin of the best love of her life.
It begins with prom night going wrong. Her boyfriend is a cheater and her best friend is a liar.
Kayla/Micky/Mikayla meets Jake Andrews and his friends. They are also going to their prom. Jake invites her to his prom after witnessing Kayla's heartbreak.
She has a great time but when she gets home her world falls apart. Jake is there to help her and later on his parents too.
What happens that night seals their fate together.
This book was so emotional. It was perfect. I love love love Jake. He is a true alpha with an Aussie accent and a heart of gold. He is also quite popular as a baseball pitcher with a chance at becoming pro ("The Jake Andrews").
His family was amazing. His friends were all supportive.
Logan was the next best thing to Jake and I'm thrilled he gets his own book next.
My kindle is full of bookmarks. I much more than I love it.
Kudos to Jay Mclean. This book is a winner.
“I'm thinking that maybe I'm really far from more than a lot liking you, Mikayla Jones.”
